Hi guys,

Im after a new blow off valve. Have no idea what to go for. Right now i have the stocker in there with basic mods such as turbo back exhaust, pod, fmic, boost @ 12psi. I've finally reached the point where i want a blow off that sounds a bit deeper, a bit tighter. More of a tttsshhhh, instead of a ppsshhhh... if you follow me. :D A more solid and tight release sound, nothing too crazy though.

Is changing blow off valve allowed? And can it be engineered? I'll be getting my car engineered in the near future.

If someone could comment on whats available out there and what the differences are that would be awesome. Any recommendations would be good too. Thanks!!

1. dont be a wank...stick with plumb back...good for performance and doesnt mess with airflow...issues with idle and hunting and so forth.

2. atmo bovs arnt liked by tpt cops and you can and will get fined for it.

3. if your going to buy an a/m one get an ex stock gtr bov or a/m plumb back. Trust me when i say after 6 months to a year you wont want it anymore and will want to revert back to something less annoying and less wankish.

4. R31Nismoid will prob close the thread or another mod...with a comment similar to this. Learn to use the search button :D

Wasnt intending to be rude either.

Starting off your answer with dont be a wank and then saying you Wernt intending to be rude doesnt really come across that way.

He was asking about the legalities is it alowed and can he get it engineered ... sure he could have probably come across alot of info searching but in know way has he come across a wanker.

xizor atmo bov's are illegal you can and most likely will get defected if you get one. I wouldnt recommend it mate. Stick with the standard one... sure it isnt all that loud but atleast you dont have to worry when the boys in blue ask to have a look under ya boonet :D

Yes i've been defetced for bov in the past. In no way will you get it 'properly' engineered. Though that's not to say you couldn't with the right people haha. A plumb back is a different story though as it keeps everyone happy, but you won't get your 'psssssh' noise. Up to you really...

yes i know...things come across the wrong on the net...everytime. When your saying things in a loose context or in a slangish lazy manner people take it the wrong way. Hence why i said at the end i wasnt intending to be rude.....maybe i just like to use the word wank?

Im sorry, why wont i get the blow off noise with a plumb back? I was of the understanding the stock one is a type of plumb back, and it does its soft woosh courtesy of me having a pod filter.

As i said im not crazy or interested in anything thats a big no no, so definitely not interested in atmo's. I did do a search and it seemed to just come up with loads for sale. Which doesnt really help me because i dont understand the differences in brands or specs to know what suits what im after.

I guess im looking for information on what else is out there that functions the same as the stock, but better for a modded car running higher boost, and doesnt sound quite as soft? I want the sounded to suite, so a bit more manly. :D

youve basically answered it in your own words....plumb backs dont make noise cause the air is sent back to the turbos intake. Only the feint whoosh from the pod filter as you said already. Anyother plumb back or similar bov will only make the same noise. Only way to get any noise or anything louder then std bov is an atmo one...but it will probably be over the top for what your thinking of.

I have a hks ssq at the moment...but its shitting me...so im going to machine up an adapter to suit so i can plumb it back into intake, like a std setup.

When it comes to bovs there isnt exactly a great deal in it...theres atmo, plumb backs and then 50/50 atmo/plumbacks in one!

hmm maybe...ive never noticed anything different about them...maybe their intake was an ally pipe, maybe a steel pipe, maybe plastic downpipe...maybe someones was a 2.5" pipe or a 4" pipe or something in between...all those things could affect the sound...probably even the type of pod filter you have and how long the inlet tract is. Anyway its upto you, atleast theres a little bit more info in here...might help to think it over with whats available.

If you wanna know about brands and types...all you need to do is buy a few car mags....HPI, ZOOM, HOT 4's and the other usuals...there is always different bovs for sale there all with pics and descriptions and prices. Will definetely help with the pick.

A Single GTR bov is a direct bolt on replacement for an RB25, it does have a tighter, more refined sound that actually has a note to it rather than just air moving that my RB25 one had. I plan to plumb mine back, but the microtech probably wont like that so I'm waiting for when i next need a tune.

hey guys i have an rb20, standard bov, but with a k&n pod filter. i swear to god the pod lets out a sound as loud and nice as most bovs i have heard. a mate of mine with an sr20 bought the same pod for his car and it started makin a similar noise. i really think it depends on the type of pod you have!

dont bother with the atmo, it aint worth the defect....my 2c

keep he stocko on, and put a deceptor pro in the front drivers side intercooler piping, down in the wheel well. that way you can turn it on and pssssht away and off and the noise is gone. i have a blanking plate for the stock bov, or you could leave it stock if you can set the deceptor spring low enough i guess

instead of having the a/m one switch to plumb-back or atmo, totally block the polumback one and you will have no issues. if you want flutters, just put a blanking plate on the stocker your pod will do the rest.

changing pods will change your stock bov noise dramatically

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
