Looking for options for a Cat Back system to suit R34 - 4 Door - N/A.

Had a Fujitsubo Legalis R system ( 70mm diameter main with the twin 90mm tips ) on order through JDM Imports ( Trader ) since Nov last year but don't expect I'll ever see it ( or my $600 deposit ) so I'm now looking for other options.

So what do you have ? How much ? How loud ? Where from ?

Cheers.

P.S. Not interested in any loud / droney systems.

Would anyone know if a cat back from a R34 GT-R would fit a R34 sedan ?

Might be difficult.. Pkus a GTR cat-back it's too big for a N/A i would think... You need something smaller like 2.25 or 2.5.. There aren't many premade systems out there that offer a 2.25 or 2.5 system, you will usually have to get something custom made from an exhaust shop.. This isn't that expensive either.

I got a 2.25 cat back system from hi-tech exhausts in syd, sounds nice and doesn't drone.

Yeah, was considering a 3" Fujitsubo Legalis R for a turbo. Since they are mega quiet on a turbo I was thinking it might sound good on an N/A. :P So, what about the fitment ?

Hmmm. Was giving Hi-Tech some thought. What sort of $'s for a cat back from Hi-Tech ?

yea once again stay away from 3' cat backs..

Catback from hi-tech.. anywhere from $450-$700, how sharp are your bargaining skills? ;)

Cheers for that Nick. I don't mind Hi Tech but I prefer an "off the shelf" option if I can get it.

Has anyone got anything other than a Hi Tech or Fujitsubo to suit this set-up ?

I do NOT recommend Hi Tech Mufflers.. the guy who did it was rude, loud, unhelpful and generally talk to me like i'm a 7 year old and am really stupid..

this is the thread of the story

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...142090&st=0

Recently I had to adjust my exhaust beacuse it was rattling against something under the car, and I did not go to high tech to get it fixed, I rather pay another exhaust shop to do it.

Up to this day, I haven't checked whether the other resonator is stainless steel, I was thinking if it's not.. I'll use it for a year then get it changed..

cheers

Oh man, I totally forgot about this episode with you & Hi Tech !!

I think I'm just going to have to re-save the $'s and buy an off the shelf system.

Cheers for the reminder :(

are you looking for a budget upgrade for power? or something that sounds good?

i'm about to throw a standard GTR exhaust onto my NA, it's 2.5" and lines up exactly. giggidy

Looking for something that flows better so the revs above 4K actually have a reason to exist :D and of course, I need some sort of sound other than hissing ;)

Interesting thought though........ I wonder how much better ( if any ) a factory R34 GTT sedan zorst would be compared to what I have atm......... :)

you did the washer nozzles thing *bows*

it's my pleasure =)

seriously at this point of time I really regret not putting anther 400-500 bucks out and getting a jap system.. it'll def get rid of the drone..

cheers

not sure about the exhaust sizing in the r34s, but in the r32/r33's the turbo variants have a slightly larger exhaust.

i'd not expect them to extract every last kilowatt from your setup, but bang for buck wise - they'd be a cheap and reasonably more than enough upgrade. considering you can pick up a stock exhaust for next to nothing.

So, from now on I'll be known as "The Washer Nozzle Guy" ?!?! :D

Yeah I've decided to give away the whole idea of getting a system made up. Going to go back to looking at bolt-up systems. I've never had a really bad boltup system :(

That will be the fall-back plan then ! Got a few other options to try first. Cheers.

  • 4 weeks later...

If anyone's interested, here's the one I'm getting........

Our friends at Nengun have been kind enough to recently put this item on their list of exhaust systems available for purchase but I have already got the ball rolling with our other good friends at JustJap who are getting it for me :D

And just for the sake of sharing info, for those looking for a Cat-Back system, here's the range from Kakimoto.

Enjoy !

I've been looking for an exhaust for a V35 Coupe, and came across the HKS Hi Power Ti. Absouletly awesome sound. I suspect it will be quite different on an RB compared to a VQ, but if the same basic sound is there go for it. It's got this awesome high pitched growl that you'd expect from a supercar.

Jump on You Tube and type in G35 Coupe HKS Exhaust, you'll get a few recording of yanks jumping on the loud pedal.

Haven't checked but I think I heard HKS may have sound files on their website.

Getting the Fujitsubo Legalis R stainless cat-back one with the 70mm main pipe and twin 90mm tips so it looks nice and standard :pirate:

For sure, I'll let you know when I've got it and fitted it so you can have a listen ! I don't expect it's going to be anything noticeable since Fujitsubo are without a doubt, the quietest systems available.

Here's the dB stats on the Fuji system:

At idle: Stock 63 dB - Fuji 57 dB

3000rpm: Stock 75 dB - Fuji 79 dB

5000rpm: Stock 82 dB - Fuji 84 dB

Approach exhaust noise at 4500rpm: Stock 80dB - Fuji 84 dB

The Kakimoto ones are the ones to get if you want a growling exhaust note & a cannon tip. Kaki's sound MEGA tough on N/A's but I just want some top end flow, but I don't want attention

DVS R34, expect to pay around $1,000 + for any of these top shelf N/A systems. Worth every cent IMO !!

Now I just have to wait for 6 weeks :)

hmm... would be keen to see how it sounds.

for some reason twin cam NA's seem to be quite difficult to find a suitable not too loud, but not too quiet type exhaust.

6 weeks is a long wait... i'll be keen for a sound file or video.

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
