Timming Belt

HI just need your opinions, is this normal for not having a timming belt cover on? or is the timmng belt too tight to have cuse this marks? Any ideas of what cause this ? Its a gates blue timming belt and it has done about 5000kms on it, has no sqeaking or any abnormal noise beside the usual whinning noise when running. Thanks for your help.

No that's normal, they run over steel idler/adjuster so it leaves the marks.

the adjuster puts pressure on the non ridged side..

it should have a cover though

Will this also shortens the life of the belt????

Running no cover can cause your belt to wear prematurely, as dust gets in there, it is also a bit dangerous, like when you are checking your timing, the lead can get picked up, although it looks good.
