id put my money on it. Thing is if the rb20 didnt blow, id now have an r32 with an rb20 that ive spent just as much on as i have the rb31det. I awlays intended on upgrades to my skyline...ask Joel :) I was picking his brains just before my 20det blew....:)

I love the 31det and would never go back. Simple as that. Makes power everywhere, and its soo easy to control. No "plant the foot and wait for it"...power is just there when u want it.

As for the interference motor bit....id put all my money to bet that it will happen again with the rb31det if the belt lets go.

could it be that when the belt broke the result was a bent crankshaft sent the valves slightly more southward or the violent shock made the valves open more??? My rb26 is non interface as i have swang the cams around on tdc and nothing hit!!!

Sorry to momentarilly move off topic, but I promised a set of pictures of the R33 mounts and the engine lowering blocks I used. Note that each aluminium mount has had the mounting and locating slots lengthened for positioning on the top of the rubber pad, and the crossmember slot was lengthened from below the pad...Havent dissasembled yet so dont have any actual measurements. The engine/box braces were slightly relieved with an angle grinder to accommodate the power steering lines.

I've been quoted $38 a piston from Jet hot(RB30E forgies) don't forget the valves need to be done to get the full advantage of ceramic coating, SK knows more about this topic.

I rang HPC in brisbane and got a better deal.

It's $198 to ceramic coat the tops and cover the sides of the piston in solid dry film lubricant for a set ($33 a piston).

It's $8.80 for each ceramic coated valve ($211 for one engine)

$3.30 to apply S01 Solid Dry Film Lubricant coating to each valve spring. ($79 for one engine)

seems like cheap insurance to me.

Some trivia about the timing belt Dayco 94407 that most of you guys use.

Did you know this timing belt is also used on factory Audi A4's 1.8L 20V twin cam Quatrro and Turbo 95 onwards(ADP,ADR and AEB engines). Also for the Volkswagon Passat 98 onwards 1.8L 20V twin cam, including turbo (ADR and AEB engines).

It's the same motor in both makes.:cheers:

The forgies finally turned up.

It's an Arias rb30 piston kit, rings,clips and pins included.

It also came with a spec sheet which I scanned and uploaded with the pics.

Stroke 86mm????

Everywhere I have looked it states 85mm. ??

Your right there Joel.

Arias state 86mm stroke and a displacement of 3.035L

In the Factory VL manual it says 85mm stroke and 2.962L

see attached pic.

I'm not too worried about the conflicting specs, measurements will be doubled checked before assembly.

For those motors/cars 1.8L, it list 3 different belts, all with slightly different amount of teeth.

I wonder if the shorter ones would allow you to use both lower tensioners, surely two teeth shorter wouldn't make alot of difference to the length?

The dayco belt is 152 teeth.

Any idea as to why the same motor would have different lengths belts available?

This guy used a 150teeth belt and could use the lower tensioners

Timing belt details are - Gates POWERGRIP GT2 p/n 1200 8MGT 30

it measures 1200mm long, 8mm pitch on teeth, 150 teeth, and 25mm wide but it was cut down from 30mm in the factory! Cost $80 as it's a heavier belt.  

The problem with that belt is the width and the type of teeth is not 100% correct, but if those Audi's have the correct width and teeth, maybe the shorter belt is better, if its available?

These Audi belts are 22mm wide, whereas the OEM nissan belt is 25mm. Would it be fair to assume it is 12% weaker than the factory nissan belt?

I remember looking into this option, and i think they were either unavailible in OZ or very pricey.

What belt did you use MonstaS4?

The dayco belt 94407?, these are the cars that dayco belt are off?

    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny  
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again 
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
