So since this thread is dead...can we take it in a slightly different direction. Copy, complete and paste the following info into your post :ninja:

Cam Brand -

Specs - (I:Duration/lift , E:Duration/lift)

Turbo -

ECU -

Before, Power - @ psi

After, Power - @ psi

Dyno sheet

It seems so far a few ppl seem to have tried Poncams and HKS Step 1. I shoudl have some results up in a few weeks.

Cam Brand - Tomei Poncams

Specs - (I:256/8.5 , E:256/8.5)

Turbo - gt2876r .64 housing

ECU - haltech e11v2

Before, Power - ? @ psi - didnt get a power reading before doing all the work to the engine

After, Power - [email protected] psi

Dyno sheet - dont have a scanner

quincy777- mate ill tell you this. i have had an RB20DET in my GTRST b4 and the mods i had was:

Custom Zorst Manifold

GT3040R with .63 housing

Sard 550cc

EMS stinger

bosch 910 fuel pump

forrged pistons (Arias)

Custom FMIC

Now, i was running 1.5 bar of boost and she made 230rwkw. I ordered Tomei 256 with 9.5 lift cams that was for an RB25DET engine and my mechanic fitted them. then car was tuned at 1.2 bar boost and made a 261rwkw.

The point is that i invested $1500 that was NOT a waste.

Cheers

Babak

230rwkw on 1.5bar wtf that sounds like a fair average figure for that setup...

Who tuned the car? Have they any experience with cars with the same setup as you less the cams?

I have searched high and low and im not able to find a single definitive example where a setup had been run for a period of time, then had cams thrown at it and tuned by the same guy on the same dyno and actually made more power.

LOL...it doesnt appear as though such an example exists :)

If you were after an rb25 example i meet all those criteria. 30rwkw gain with no other changes.

it was tuned by richard at allstar performance systems here in qld, your best bet would be to email dan from elite racing at [email protected] and ask him about his personal rb20, i know he did see results from changing to poncams.

I have Cams in my RB20, with GT3040, 25psi, boost came on hard and all the way to 8.7k, made close to 290rwkw untill it received some forged piston melting conditions. lol.

a better tune and more fuel with new engine should see it hit over 300rwkw.

i know this is all about cams but im not for giving out my specs, but yes they sure make it alot better. more power and response and yes the cam gears were adjusted.

have some faith troy.....my car is in the shed with its cams out, ready for the new ones (256/8.5)....just waitin on the water pump, belts, tensioners

should be fairly soonish

LOL...fair enough. But there is enough 'trust me..wink, wink" stuff going on. Im looking for hard tangible results :)

Can you at least post a dyno sheet?

Look forward to seeing your results as your turbo is a bit smaller then what im running.

Honestly. Based on my experiences with my setup...i agree. Its all in the tune and being willing to run the 18psi with a decent turbo.

What are std Rb20 cams and std RB26 cams. Sure the lift is a little different but the durations isnt overly different. So perhaps the std Rb20 cams are decent enough. I know my power whilst trailing off up top didnt exactly fall over

so true, if anything the rev limit needed to be raised

would obviously differ between setups, but goes to show its possible

anyway, graphs have been pissing me off as of late, going to WSID on the 25th.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
