Just happened to stumble across this thread - better late than never though...

The silver 33 on the first page is my car and yes it's a genuine Blitz LM FMIC.

Admittedly, I've always thought my FMIC sat a little low, but I've never given it more thought as I personally don't mind the way it looks and as my car isn't particularly low, I vary rarely scrape the return pipe (only done it a couple of times when I wasn't thinking...very minor).

I did need to relocate the horn to accomodate the mounting bracket and the cooler is mounted directly to the mounting bracket, so I'm not sure how it's possible to mount it any higher (other than angling the bottom of the FMIC towards the rear of the car). Perhaps I was supplied with the incorrect mounting bracket...

Otherwise, my setup looked very similar to the pics posted by Ol Mate above.

here ya go

:) cheers mate, would you be able to get the same pic but from the front of the car looking up at the return pipe and the radiator support bar??sorry to be a pain, If you cant be bothered thats ok lol :)

The only pic i really need now is a pic of the front of the car with the bumper on, if you could post some up when yourve got it all finished that would be awsome.

Cheers

This is the exact reason i need some decent pics, some people say that yours is mounted wrong (no offence) and that theirs dosent sit anywere near as low as yours, then others say yours is mounted rite and looks just like theirs, so in a way im getting two different stories, which is making it very hard to decide if i should get one or not, hence why i need pics.:)

coolers were not meant to be this hard ey?

Lol :) i know what you mean, but when your paying $1080 just for a cooler you want to know exactlly what your buying before you buy it lol

Sorry, but I must be missing the issue....I've shown you and sent you pics of the kit fitted on 2 different R33's (mine and Justin's) and it is CLEARLY NOT below the front bar on either of them.

I think you're making your own decision harder than it has to be.

Nizmo Freek, it's simple...

Obviously the kit can be made to sit higher than the way it appears on my car. Dezz's pic above is a perfect example - don't ask me how he did it though (unless his mounting bracket is different to the one I received - I bought mine brand new 3 years ago, so perhaps the bracket has been revised, or more likely I've got the incorrect bracket or done something incorrect when installing).

Without going to the trouble of pulling my front bar off (don't ask, I'd love to help, but I won't do it), I think you've got about as much info as you're going to get to help with your decision.

If you're still worried about the return pipe being too low or you're considering substantially lowering your car, then perhaps you should consider a different FMIC.

Im not one of those people that just says "she'll be right mate", i would rather know exactlly what im buying, ive just had a look at my car to compare it with "Ol_Mate's" pics and it dosent look like it will sit below the bumper.

Maybe i am making this decision hard, but i would rather know what its going to look like before i buy it instead of just buying it without knowing.

The kit does come with a 33 and a 34 mounting bracket, the only way I can see that ECR033 could mount is any lower than mine or Justin's is if he used the R34 bracket, and in saying that I don't know for sure that using the 34 bracket would make it sit lower...I'm just saying thats 1 possibility.

Everything lines up, so I guess we can cross the wrong bracket off the list then...

I didn't do any bashing as such though - just fitted it straight on as is. Either that, or I stuffed up something somewhere (doubt it though, as again i'm guessing nothing would line up properly).

Regardless, it's done the job the way it is for the last 3 years - no reason to change anything now :D

I think the set up is this way it's because it is meant mainly for low mount turbos, instead of having the pipes circling all over the engine bay this method is better, however if you change into top mount, it'll be a........ headache...

with regards to the blitz logo, It was already on it when I purchase...

I'm not sure what to do atm, I'm going to change to forward facing plenum and topmount, the exit of the pipe went back to the left of the car.. which i think requires snake shaped pipings ><

    • Well, the trouble with that ^^ is: The configuration shown is absolutely a 1-way, not a 1.5-way. There is no way that a 1.5-way can be said to offer LSD action only on acceleration. If Nismo cannot get that right, then it is impossible to believe their documentation. That ^ is not a 1.5 way setup. That is a 1-way.   And so now I have allowed all doubts to flourish and have gone back to look at the MotoIQ video. I originally made the mistake of believing him when he said "this is a 1.5-way" at the ~6:10 mark. Because what he did was take the gear assembly out of the 2-way opening and just rotate it one place to the left to drop it into the 1-way opening. When he dropped it in there, the cam was "backwards" compared to the correct orientation shown in all other photos of that config. The flat shold have been facing the 1° ramp side of the opening, not the 55° ramp side. And I thought, "gee that's cute", but I was concerned at the time, when he put the other ring back on, that the gap between the rings looked like it was wider then in the 2-way config. And then I said a lot of things in my long post on Tuesday that could only make sense if the guy from MotoIQ was correct about what he'd done. BUT... I have now done my homework. I grabbed a frame of the video with the 2-way config, and then grabbed another with the "1.5-way" config, snipped out the cam and opening of that frame and just pasted it direct on top of the 2-way config. I scaled it so that the triangular opening was almost exactly the same height in both. AND.... the gap between the plates is wider with the cam installed in the triangualr opening backwards. That is.... it cannot go together that way. There would be massive force on the plates all the time, if you could even reassemble it.  So, My statement on the matter? The Nismo diff is actually only a 2-way and 1-way. There is no 1.5-way option in it, regardless of what they say. Here's a photo of a real 1.5-way ramp opening from Cusco (along with the 1 way option). And the full set of 1 through 2 way options from their racing diff, which is not same-same as what we'd typically be using, but...the cams work the same. A little blurry, but it comes from this Cusco doc, which is quite helpful. AND.... Cusco do in fact do what I suggested would be sensible, which is to have rings that do 1 and 1.5, and 1.5 and 2. Separately.
    • Welcome Adam. Car looks great!
    • "With a 1.5-WAY, the LSD is effective only during acceleration."
    • Well it wasn't as easy as I thought.... and it also wasn't in my original manual which I did end up finding. They discuss the process in the Nismo catalogue though and it requires slight machining. Page 145.  NISMO PARTS CATALOGUE 2020
    • I'm an idiot, my intercooler is rated for 1000hp. I had clicked on the wrong product. Knowing the delta P would be nice, but I'm doubtful I'll do it. Now as for an EMAP, that would be great and I'll get around to it eventually but from my findings in my last post, I'm considering a turbo swap now.
