Donnan
Hi all! I was thinking about organising a Rick Bates 'Performance Driving day' and wanted to know if anyone here has been on one and/or wanted to join in on one. Apparently Rick likes to keep the numbers between 4-5 and during the week seems to be the time to go (track always busy on weekends?). I know people always like to know dates before joining in on something, but at this stage I am just trying to get some feedback on interest and anyone who has done driver training before. Is there someone better? Cheaper? Rick charges about $285 per person (based on 4 people) for a full day. Wakefield licence and helmet is extra I think. Cheers Donnan http://www.batesadvanceddriving.com/index.html Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/156097-wakefield-driving-day/ Share on other sites
a20089
For a full day that's not bad track hire is about $1300 weekday. Being a business he'd probably get it cheaper. Shell
Unless I'm reading it wrong, it it looks like he holds them on the open practice days? so you wouldnt have the track to yourself, there'd also be anyone else who wanted to turn up also. i'm just going by this: When Are Courses Held? The courses need to be held generally on a weekday and an open track day. Click here to find out when Wakefield has open track days. H guys, I hope you don't mind me jumping in here but as member and reader I noticed your looking for some information on advanced driving courses. I run Fifth Gear Motorsports here in Canberrs and hold advanced courses at Wakefield on a needs basis and thought you might like some additional info. I run the course on weekdays (speed off the street days)at a cost of $250 per person, this includes your annual track license to use again and the track for the day, so there are no other cost besides lunch and fuel. You would need a group of 5 people to run a day, if you are running short on numbers I can sometimes fill them with other interested people.(they may not drive a skyline though?) For more course details you can visit our web site www.fifthgear.com.au and check out Advanced courses I will include some dates that are available in March for you. March 7, 8, 14, 16, 21 & 22 If you have any further questioned then please ask. Donnan
Sorry for the super late notice, but i am wondering if there is anyone who may be still interested in a track day? Sorry Dereck, i am not actually organising this track day just atteding (is a present). Details: 14/03/07 (next wednesday!) 8:30am-5:00pm $300pp based on 4 people (gets slightly cheaper with more) Ricks fee, your wakefield licence and helmet are all covered; all you need to do is show up with a car and a full tank of fuel. Again, sorry about the late notice but two people dropped out and we would like to fill their spots if possible. I will be out at the museum tonight and at wheels on sunday, so anyone interested can talk to me then or call my mobile (0416 051 224) if needed. Donnan
Wow! What a day! Anyone who has not been on a track day is crazy. I always knew it would be fun, but it was freakin' awesome. Having an instructor in the car was fantastic because they actually show you how to drive your car properly and it makes a huge difference to how the car handles and how much faster you can actually go. To those who asked previously, yes it was an open track day which meant 15min on, 30min off. As this was my first time, it suited me perfectly. After 15min, I really needed a drink, some snacks, a pit stop and time to fiddle with the car and let it cool down. I was really lucky that i did not have any troubles with my car (apart from making a quick fuel run, not to self: take extra fuel next time), others had a few dramas like chewing through two sets of rear tyres, severe brakes fade (poor guy bled them twice and it still didn't really help), leaking radiator hoses and a dead engine; just the normal kind of stuff for a track day i guess? I just had my 100k service done the week before and the tyres are pretty new (not anymore!) so the car drove fantastically. After seeing what others were going through i can see that i saved myself alot of bs by taking care of the car. Before the next time i go out the car will be treated to another service and everything double checked again especially: 1-OIL 2-OIL 3-OIL 4-WATER 5-BRAKES My times weren't anything great, but i am happy with my first outing and already have a list of suspension mods that i want to do. This has made me even more keen to do another driving day, but with someone else (dreck i am looking in your direction) to get another point of view. Will not be for a while, have to let the bank balance recover first! Times in last session (very rough, mate with phone stop watch in pit lane) A couple of 1.23s Mostly 1.22s Even got a 1.20 someting See you on the track Donnan Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/156097-wakefield-driving-day/#findComment-2981054 Share on other sites
