just jap sell a fmic with the inlet and outlet on the same side. u just have to make ur own piping to mate with the stock pipes. i was considering this option myself. from memory it's around $200, no piping incl.

edit: heres the link http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...c=82006&hl=

cheers man

i had a look at that one but looks like the pipes r on the wrong side, correct me if i'm wrong, but yeah prefer to have the pipes on same side, shld b heaps easier to install that way, does anyone know of any like that or does anyone have one on their car?

u say ur stock one goes alright hey, how much boost?

you can turn the cooler around to have the pipes on the passenger side. they work both ways.

i'm only running 10psi, with zorst and pod.

These cheap coolers may be able to make "X" amount of power, but how many of those people, have taken there cheapo cooler off, wacked on a branded, more expensive, better built unit, to find that the inlet charge is now, even cooler, and even more power is able to be made?

A cheap cooler will do you for low power, but I wouldn't want to push one in high power.

hey guys

am thinkin about gettin a greddy FMIC so im just wondering what the difference is between

that and a cheaper version (justjap)....

i have been quoted a medium sized greddy FMIC (not sure on figures) piped and fitted for 1g

am i better off doin that or picking up a cheaper FMIC.

thanx

So, you would deem 480HP at the wheels ant 18psi as "low power" ?

They are a core

They do the same job

The piping might be cheaper, and the welds might not be as good but results speak louder than words

Same goes for the whole JDM exhaust vs Local made exhaust debate

as i sad above i had a "branded" cooler n no difference

monkey boy, get an FMIC dude, you dont know how crap the SMIC is till you get a real core that flows well and cooles the intake charge... seriously those smic cop heat soke in no time, your blower works overtime to pump air through it after a little open throttle you start loosing power in major ways not to mention nock and over fueling from various issues.

I had them and once going to a nice MUCH free'er flowing FMIC it really did the trick, not a single nock or backfire since and there ar !FAR! better FMIC's out htere than mine certainly.

    • List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter?
    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
