A few people have commented to me that in the next 12 months the prices of imports (good condition ones) is going to rise quite dramatically because of the current import laws.

I know you can't really predict whats going to happen. If it happens it happens.

I reckon it could well happen. It would be nice anyway :)

What do you's think? Have you heard any of the same rumours?

I've heard bits of both "prices will rice" and "prices will stay the same" for both importers and other people i've spoke to..

If anything, just lately i've noticed prices on most cars are cheaper than before ever before.

Personally, i think prices will pretty much follow the usual downward trend and everything will level out by the end of the year. Modified ones might attract a bit of a premium but otherwise much will same.. new models will come out, old ones will get cheaper, etc.

price comes down to supply vs demand. its a simple equation that could have many different factors effecting it.

the price of imports decreasing, holding or rising will, i believe, depend on many varied things...

- the local market is starting to get interesting with the turbo xr6 and new monaro's then you have the locally delivered sti's, evo8, rx8, 350z's ...

- cost of insurance for imports (and any performance car for that matter) has been and is getting ridiculous

- cost of compliance and the amount of compliance workshops. i believe for a workshop to compliance a vehicle it costs a bomb now.

well ive heard that these new imported laws are a way to "weed out" all the dodgy ppl doin imports. like franks above says the cost of compliance will rise. this is because to get an imported car complianced ie: skyline (or whenever the date will be/is") u will have to go to a certified complianced business. and there aren't too many of these business floating around. to become a certified complianced business u will need a proper workshop along with all the neccessary equipment fit for servicing, altering etc.... Now the reason why this will weed out the dodgy ppl gettting compliances is because to become this so called registered business you will need someone from canberra to come down to inspect it. I think this costs A LOT of money.

It is my belief that the actual cars wont appreciate in value but follow the spiral trend of depreciation. Again as franks said it depends on a whole bunch of factors. However the prices for getting these plates will soon solely depend on these registered imported business-and that is a problem cause if there aint too many around and there is a demand for jap imports then they can charge a shit load. I predict that this wont happen until a couple of years time cause there are heaps of current jap imported cars in australia (ie: the ones that we drive now)

Hope this all made sense and i hope im correct.

not sure.

    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
