N1's are laggy as, we have them on our Targa car. My car has HKS GT2530's (same as 2860 -5 i think), and i'm on 1.1 bar @ 4400rpm, the N1's are on 1.1 bar at over 5000rpm.

I'd go the Garrett's if you can afford it.

Depends on how much HP you want to run and what sort of response you want. I've got the 2860-5 and they come on at around 4K and make 430RWHP without cams. You sacrifice a little response but I think they're worth it. PNBlight makes about 520RWHP on his 33R, but I would'nt expect to get alot more. From memory Garrett advertise them as a "replacement upgrade "for the 34 GT-R turbos (-7). N1 and 2860R-5 really are quite different turbos and therefore not really comparable. You'd be better off comparing HKS2530, 2860R-5 and Trust T517. There was a good thread that contained a side by side comparison just recently... the HKS 2530 and the Trust T517 have more legs and produce more HP at higher rpm respectively. That would make the 2860r-5 a good comprimise for price and reposnse.

I dont want to run more than 1.2 bar as its on stock internals ( last engine died on .85 bar bloody stock turbos ) and big horse power is not the objective just want a good solid performance.

depends on the N1s though. there are heaps of different types. even in R34 N1s there are two different types. one has 0.48 comp and 0.64 turbine the other has 0.60 comp and 0.64 turbine, both ball bearing, but the 0.48 is very responsive. much more than GT2530s. the 0.60 would be less responsive, but should make a little more up top. If you are talking R32 N1s (aka Group A's) they are laggier still but have pretty decent power potential.

Since he said Nismo N1's I was guessing R32/R33 N1's.

As i dont want to run a big top end the smaller N1 would be more suitable. they are from a R34 and have a A/R of .48

Still the cost of rebuilding N1 turbos is almost the same a new Garrets

i went down this path 2 weeks ago.

brand new from garret they are around 1200, a new cartridge + rebuild was about 700 and i ended up going for 5mm oversize as new cartridge for 34n1's was about 1-2 weeks wait

Edited by Angus Smart

Yer not that easy over here, i guess i could find some one to rebuild them but no part available so would have to order them and wait. Think the new garrets maybe the more effective solution in this case

Cheers all

    • Ha ha ha, that's fair mate! We have the crackhead dogs now. Mainly because the missus wants the crazy dogs while she still has the energy and capacity to be able to keep up with them! Ha ha our current two are both Working GSD, there brothers and sisters (from the same litters) are in Police, Corrective Services, and I believe one did end up in defence force too. They're wild and fun, yet right now, both curled up asleep on the lounge room floor while we watch some TV. Mal is very likely the next dog (unless I get my couch potato guardian dog 😛 )   What are your Kitties names? Are you planning some house work, like those high kitty shelves, built in scratching post, and some cat passages from one room to another room?
    • Maine Coone, did look at but to big and fluffy As for performance dogs, we had Mals at work, performance dogs are fun to watch, but, way to much work for this old rooster
    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
