HSD HR is OK for street, seems to work well for drift, not sure about circuit. But you can get much much better than HSD, they are a cheap coilover aimed at a price bracket, so they will skimp on things to meet this bracket. Same with all cheap coilovers/shocks.

so which cheapie coilovers do u recommend ?

Just dont do it man hey. The bilstein stuff isnt THAT much more, and it will work better, last longer and therefore cost you less in the long run.

Trust me I've been there done that, spent almost $2k on coilover rebuilds, different springs etc etc. If you can do it once properly do it.

BTW, you can get the bilsteins kind of like a coilover. You get the coilover things that go around the shock, then just get the springs to suit. But it would probably cost more than its worth.

I wouldn't recommend any of the cheap coilovers. My experience with HSD wasn't good, but everyone else seems to have good luck with them. When I had them in my car, I hated them.

had f*kd TEIN, HSD and ISC in my ceffy - HSD were good until i had ISC - noticed even with stiffer spring rate the ISC were much more forgiving with driving on the street - they just seemed to be more adjustable for street, but then work when they needed to on the track.

i havent heard of ISC before. can u tell me which country make them. Also which type of TEIN coilovers did u use ? Thanks

i got Tein HR's in my ceffy and they r bumpy and knockin like hell. Keep the car nice and flat in the corners and when driftin but soon as i hit a bump u can feel the car jump and the wheel chirps as its skips in the air. Soon as i have the cash i will b changing them, unsure to what yet.

If is bumping too much on the street it is bad for the car? my answer will be yes. How about if u changing to the softest on the street ? Are they still keep u riding like a horse ?

Most people in aus are running the HRs. They are cheap and seem to work well for the drifters.

Halo_a: They dont make Tein HAs anymore. And most (if not all) of the Jap shocks are arguably inferior to European shocks. But if it makes you happier, get the cheapest nastiest set of coilovers you can find. After all, the more expensive stuff isn't like that for a reason is it?

not on the road yet had a few dramas building engine next time i'm home then got g/b and diff to finnish then its on the road again

I personally would find the extra $200/300 or whatever it is and get the bilsteins. But thats my oppinion.

For the sort of money those coilovers are worth brand new, you can get the Bilsteins made into coilovers. $2262 they cost me and use your own factory strut tops. If you've got a set of coilover tops around (suit rectangular coil) then you can take another $100 off the price. This includes custom spring rates (Eibachs, best springs in the world) AND revalved to suit.

I see some sponsors doin Tein flex for $2050 and Tein monoflex for $2450

For the normal strut and spring combination it comes to $1436 for the set delivered.

Wat i knw is TEIN doesnt make in Japan anyone more they make in Taiwan. If so i might get bilsteins or ohlins coilovers. wat the the average price on them ? IS there any manufacturer in Australia ?

Bilstiens and Ohlins aren't exactly cheap, your best bet would be the groupbuy that SK is running. Prices for R32 are quoted above. Ohlins are damn expensive and I somehow doubt you could afford them if you were considering HSD.

    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
