Hi Guy's

Now i just spoke to my tuner and he's very reputable and knows his stuff he said that there's no point putting cam gears on standard cam's on the 26 as there is really no gain.

the car i have is an rb26 with R34N1 turbos C106/GT25 A/R 0.60/0.64. full boost at close to 5 grand at 1 bar will these cam gears actually bring that down or not????

i want people who have done it to there car's with the standard cam's to let me know there results.

very very confused because i hear people saying that you get good gains and stuff but now my tuner saying it really doesn't do anything has crushed me.

Cheers

anthony

If thats the advice being handed out and especially with R34 N1's on there...

Time to change tuner IMO.

There are a number of threads with before/after/comparo etc to backup the cam gear gives a much meatier mid-range if installed/setup correctly

Hi r31 nismoid

i tried to search for rb26 cam gears on the search function and really didn't get anything can you point me in the right direction on what it is i should type in to get the right results for the question that i'm asking.

Cheers

yep, stock cams.

change tuners though dude, seriously.

If they cant get/dont think cam gears give a gain... then its not a good idea to give them a set and tell them to "make the car better" as they obviously wont be able to given the advice.

similar results with the cars we have done with standard cams and turboes etc. Worth doing in my opinion. Even better results with a set on poncams though.

Perhaps time to maybe re-educate your tuner :(

Mike

yea it looks like it's time to reducate him but i don't understand cause this guy is great he alway's tunes my car and know's bout them inside out. i've heared they give gains but after he said they don't i was sort of aprehensive about it. but i'll give them a try i had an rb20 with a gt30 on it so i want better responce than that and with the gtr making full boost at 5000rpm i want it to come down.

these are with N1's with .6 and .64 rears what do you think it'll come down to with the cam gears. what i mean is when do you think i will see full boost???

and do you think it's worth doing the dumps on the turbo's i've heared they really don't make that much of a difference ?? up to 320rwkw on the gtr's

Cheers

how much boost is full boost?

i think with the .60 front .64 rear combo N1s you should be able to get to 1 bar before 4500rpm with some smart tuning, some dump pips and some cam gears on stock cams.

Well at the moment full boost is 1 bar but after i change injectors and cam gears full boost will be around 1.3 bar. so any ideas when i'll be seeing full boost?? also

since these are the larger (.6 front and .64 rear) N1 turbos what will be the max power i can get with them??? before it becomes inefficient

Cheers

Hi, with poncams, dumps and -5 garretts, similar specs to N1's, I reach full boost (17PSI) AT 4000RPM.

Before cam adjustment it was 4300rpm. They were already pretty close from the old engine and that was moving the intake only 2 degrees.

That 300rpm on the road, though, translates into hugely improved spool up when over 3000rpm. Very worthwhile addition to the driving experience :(

If you have never tried a different tunner how would you know his great??

Seriously if his under the impression cam gears are a waste on a 26 his not worth the coin your paying him!!

Ive got plenty of grphs just like beer barons that can show the same gains, both 25's and 26's.

And Id agree with some nice tunning work there is no reason why 1 bar cant be made by 4 grand.

Will it be ok to leave the adjustable cam gears set to 0 on my rb26 until i get a chance to get it on the dyno when i get the power fc installed?

Can they just be put straight on and driven for say a week set on 0?

one line is before cam gears. one line is after. nothing else was touched. now make up your own mind it it's worthwhile or not. :/

Do you know what the final change of the gears were ? for inlet and exuast?

+2 to +4 intake and -4 to -6 exhaust is the normal range for stock cams adjustment gains.

The improvements have a larger magnitude on larger turbos.

There is also throttle response improvements under load, these are certainly felt but, often not mentioned.

    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
