Looks like a really good idea, BUT i hope it's not gonna be like the guy with the most cash will win every meeting! This is why IP has restrictions! We are building a RA40 Celica with a 3SGTE for IP this year, well it's nearly finnished as the first race is in 3 weeks! If it came to SA i'm sure there would be quite a few here wanting to have a run! Best car we can think of within legallities in IP would be a 260z with a RB26, Think that will be the next build car......

This is more for Vic/NSW guys, but anyhoo - (move to a more appropriate thread if necessary)

For everyone's info:

CAMS revised the Group 3D "Sports Sedan" rules for this year, to allow WAY more freedom, especially for turbocharged 4WD "original floorpan" cars (i.e. GTR's !) - Note that you can't run a full spaceframe AND 4WD - you can still run a RWD Turbo and a spaceframe though.

They ditched the Multi-Valve engine equivalency rule/calulation - so now you can run a 3.5L Turbo/S.chrgd 4Valve engine (before it was only 2.5L), or a SIX LITRE 3 or 4Valve N/A motor! Can anyone weld together a pair of 3L F1 V10's ? ? ? :ninja: - Seriously though, anyone with a mega-power, tough RB26DETT stroker could CLEAN UP those Chev V8's now.. . . . I actually think they went too far, shoulda just relaxed the MultiValve factor from x1.4 to say . . . x1.3 or so..... That would've allowed standard-crank RB26's in, up to 2.7L total volume actually. Woulda allowed the 4.6L Mustang N/A V8 too, as well as 4.5L Nissan & Toyota N/A V8s. (all good, now you can stroke & bore 'em!)

You don't need opening doors anymore on full space-frame cars, and they ditched the rule which said spaceframe cars needed original factory panels for the A/B/C Pillars, sills & roof. That means full carbon/glass bodywork if you want. You can have a rear diffuser now too (Bugger: I'd figured how to cheat one under the old rules too, using exhaust mufflers as side-skirts!).

nice. so providing it has a standard floor plan someone should buy up an old JGTC GTR... lol. now that would clean up! actually I just remembered I think the JGTC GTRs (well the recent ones) were RWD anyway.

just a couple more things i thought of:

ELITE CLASS

This class will be for any mass produced car for the Japanese Domestic Market. The idea being these cars will retain the looks and basic engine and driveline configuration of the base vehicle.

Bodywork – Original, as per manufacturers specs.

Engine – Original block and heads. Increases in capacity are acceptable. Engine internals are free. Bolt on mods are free.

Transmission – Original gearbox casing. Aftermarket gear sets etc are acceptable. Remaining driveline components are free.

Wheels – Free, providing they fit inside the original guards.

Tyres – Free, providing they stay inside the original bodywork. There is the possibility a limit of road legal R spec tyres may be introduced at a later date.

Brakes – Free

Suspension – Free

Fuel – Unleaded.

Bodywork - does it have to come from that exact model? I.e. if we run a R32 GTS-t can it run a GTR bonnet/front guards/front bar?

Fuel - Unleaded? I take it this means we can run something like V-Power Racing (available at pumps), but nothing like C16 or ELF race fuel etc?

Why would it be different to every other class of motor racing there is?

The way it sounds now it will be like that, there are alot of people that don't understand why we have regs in motorsport, and there are alot of people that bitch and moan about what so and so has got! Theres more to motorracing than just a fast car.......

haha did anyone get any new emails about cams updates with sport sedans in their state championship round now....they are opening it up to japanese cars and freeing up some of the rules on turbos and whatnot...guess they are losing people and trying to regain some form of popularity...one min they piss us off and then they come back groveling for support...even offering cash prizes now too!

Cams is so sad...typical old boys club...dont like new cars and dont like anything with a hair dryer on it.

Wow, it's been a little while since I dropped in, great to see a bit of enthusiasm. I'll try to answer all your questions.

In regards to cost, you will quickly find out that even with restrcitions in place, IP is like every other category of motor sport in that at the end of the day you need really deep pockets to win. We recognise that this will more than likely be the case in this category as time goes on but the reason we decided to leave the regs reasonably open at this stage was not to exclude someone that has already invested a lot of money into thier car and find themselves ineligible due to strict regs. However, the reason we have started with two classes was to provide both a "production" based class with restrictions in place to keep costs under control and a more "open slather" type class where those with more modifications and/or money can still compete. The regs for both classes will be fine tuned as we get more numbers and feedback from competitors but we will always try and have at least one class that will cater for those on limited budgets.

In keeping with what I've said above it looks as though the first change to the regs for the "elite" production based class will be the exclusion of slicks. The new regs will allow for any road legal "r" rated tyres.

As for bodywork the idea behind the "elite" class is to have a car that has the external appearance of any other road going version, hence the exclusion of big wings and spoilers etc. I'm not sure how the other bumpers and guards etc will change the external appearance of the car of whether in fact there would be any advantage in changing them but either way you'd still be eligible for one of the classes. As for the fuel, as someone stated the ELF fuels and most of the other racing fuels are availble in unleaded. Basically at this stage fuel is free in either class but once again we may look at restricting the "elite" class to comercially available pump fuel to keep costs down.

Now, that that is done with, here's the lowdown on the first round.

Well the first round of the series has been run and won. Unfortunately numbers were a bit down, but given that there wasn't a great deal of time to get cars sorted it was to be expectd. However with the response we've had to date regarding the category, it would appear things will definitely be looking up for round 2.

We had 9 entries on the weekend but two competitors were stuck interstate or overseas and one other didn't get a gearbox finished in time. So we had 6 starters for qualifying including 4 WRXs, a Skyline GTS-T and a Toyota Chaser. Unfortunately we lost two of the WRXs with mechanical issues during qualifying, leaving only four of us to race. The organisers arranged for quite a few MX5s, technically JDM cars, to join us so we had a reasonable field of 13 cars to start.

It was a good weekend with plenty of clean racing and some quick times. Both the Chaser and the GTS-T were running around the 1:17 / 1:18s, which are very respectable times on the National circuit at QR. Both cars had minor gliches during the weekend and I managed to get through for the win, just proving that reliabilty is just as important as big power. We still have a few finer details to iron out with the classes but it's coming along nicely.

Hope to see a few more at the track for round 2 on the 28th & 29th of April.

Yeh Paul..i see you cleaned up in the wet on sunday arvo, good work....haha...we blew the turbo and 4th gear shat it self.

Next round will certainlybe interesting.

Yep, the rain certainly helped my cause in the last race but it was still pretty hairy racing in those conditions. Sorry to hear about your troubles, we certainly had our share of mechanical dramas within our class on the weekend. I'm sure the cars will become more reliable with time once everyone comes to grips with what's required.

    • I thought I'd do a write up on an auto transmission fluid change for a the nissan 7 speed Automatic. At some stage the genius engineers decided that the fluid in the trans was "for the life of the transmission", (which seems kind of self supporting to me) and removed the dip stick and fill tube (funnily enough there is still a casting for it). Anyway, for this job you do need 2 specialist tools in addition to regular hand tools, jack and good chassis stands. You need a way to pump fluid up to the transmission; I got one of these but there are plenty of other options: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364584087070 Don't trust the generic listing though, it does not come with the required adapter for the Nissan 7 Speed. Could be Nissan, could be anything else rated for Nissan Matic S. You need at least 10 litres, I had 15 to give it a better flush...     • So I mentioned the apprentice, @LachyK helped take the bonnet off. We just undid the nuts on the hinges and unclipped the gas struts, then pulled the bonnet back a little as the front was catching on the front bar.  I had a good look at everything today and have removed the rams, repaired/reset the hinges and bolted it back together like it never happened. I'll do a separate write up on the repair, and I also removed the poppers from the Fuga today too to save grief down the road.....as said above it is at least $5k to repair retail. I'm also happier about my ability to prepare a race car, and less happy about Nis-nault's engineering (I can hear @GTSBoy sAfrican Americaning) because the top hose of the radiator didn't slip off.......it snapped clean off. By practice I put the hose clamp hard up against the flare on a neck to make it least likely to ever move (thanks @Neil!). I guess that puts a little more pressure on the end of the pipe as it is further away from the rad, but still, that is pretty shit. I've put it back on for now as there was a fair bit of neck still there, but obviously there is no lip on the neck any more so I don't think I'll track it again until I have a new rad. Speaking of which....more research required. It looks like Koyo makes a standard size radiator in ally which I'll grab in the meantime, but I really want something thicker so might have to go custom in the medium term (ouch) Coolant still needs a refill and I have the pressure tester on it over night, but other than a wash down of the engine bay it seems alright. And @MBS206 noted something noisy on the front of the engine and I think I agree....time for a new accessory belt and tensioners I think.

    • What are we supposed to be seeing in the photo of the steering angle sensor? The outer housing doesn't turn, right? All the action is on the inside. The real test here is whether or not your car has had the steering put back together by a butcher. When the steering is centred (and we're not caring about the wheel too much here, we're talking about the front wheels, parallel, facing front) then you should have an absolutely even number of turns from centre to left lock and centre to right lock. If there is any difference at all then perhaps the thing has been put back together wrongly, either the steering wheel put on one spline (or more!) off, and the alignment bodged to straighteb the wheel, or the opposite where something silly was done underneath and the wheel put back on crooked to compensate. Nut there isn't actually much evidence that you have such a problem anyway. It is something you can easily measure and test for to find out though. My money is still on the HICAS CU not driving the PS solenoid with the proper PWM signal required to lighten the load at lower speed. If it were me, I would be putting either a multimeter or oscilloscope onto the solenoid terminals and taking it for a drive, looking for the voltage to change. The PWM signal is 0v, 12V, 0V, 12v with ...obviously...modulated pulse width. You should see that as an average voltage somewhere between 0V and 12V, and it should vary with speed. An handheld oscilloscope would be the better tool for this, because they are definitely good enough but there's no telling if any cheap shit multimeter that people have lying around are good enough. You can also directly interfere with the solenoid. If you wire up a little voltage divider with variable resistor on it, and hook the PS solenoid direct to 12V through that, you can manually adjust the voltage to the solenoid and you should be able to make it go ligheter and heavier. If you cannot, then the problem is either the solenoid itself dead, or your description of the steering being "tight" (which I have just been assuming you mean "heavy") could be that you have a mechanical problem in the steering and there is heaps of resistance to movement.
    • Little update  I have shimmed the solenoid on the rack today following Keep it Reets video on YouTube. However my steering is still tight. I have this showing on Nisscan, my steering angle sensor was the closest to 0 degrees (I could get it to 0 degrees by small little tweaks, but the angle was way off centre? I can't figure this out for the life of me. I get no faults through Nisscan.
