Hey just have a few questions about exhausts.

Basically im looking for an exhaust system that sounds good but isnt so loud it will attract unwanted attention (P-platers in skylines are pretty targeted strangely enough :()

Just wondering what brands you would recommend from experience and what kind of prices id be looking at. What kind of prices am i looking at for an entire engine to rear system. Just a decent system to remove some of the restriction caused by the stock exhaust so not looking to spend thousands ;). Have heard good things about the HKS Hi-Power and the Trust PE II (both sold on SAU) has anyone used or heard these exhausts?

Also what items would i need to buy for the complete system, is a cat necessary/ any significant effects and what sort of material should the exhaust sections be (stainless, mild etc)

Thanks

Youre best bet is to have a look at the Just Jap website, they have compete bolt on systems for Skylines and some of them come with silencer mufflers which you can manually reduce the noise with a small silencer in the tip.

Youre probably looking at about $1000 for stainless, but you only need that if you want it to look pretty.

Mild steel will do you fine and they're around $800, with a stainless rear muffler.

They are 3 inch mandrel bent systems with all mufflers and a cat, I can vouch for Just Japs stuff because I use alot of parts from them and my Skyline makes 230 kw at the wheels and is super reliable.

You can also get super high flow cats, but they're not really necessary unless your going for big power.

^^ haha ok

when i say 'ok' im really saying 'suck it'

cheers for the pm loymclure, still just pricing things but will get back to you when i decide

haha i want to keep it stock cejay but... temptation!

I had a look at the websites for Just Jap and Nengun, read the posts, a few articles and did some research and basically im looking at:

Front/Dump + Cat - $249 + $160 (JustJap) or $380 + $230 (BTMBL)

HKS Hi-Power Silent - http://www.nengun.com/hks/high-power-exhaust-silent - $545

or

Kakimoto Full Power N1 - http://www.nengun.com/kakimoto-racing/full-mega-n1 - $650

or

Apexi N1 Evolution - http://www.nengun.com/apexi/n1-evolution-muffler - $445

or

Trust Power Extreme II - http://www.nengun.com/trust-greddy/power-extreme-ii - $535

Is there much difference in quality between the parts BTMBL and JustJap are offering?

Whats the legal db limit?

Does the word N1 in the exhaust name really give more power?

Hmm may have to postpone the exhaust for a while, listening to my messages while typing this post up, im finally being investigated for http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=139140 . Propably wont end too well as this simple equation shows. Lightpost + other car that got hit by falling light post + not 100% car was still registered + other assorted fines = PAIN!

I have a Fujitsubo 3" catback with a 3" dump and high flow cat, and it's quiet as a mouse. It is on a stagea, but still an RB. The only difference is I have about 300mm extra length at the back. The muffler is quite big and never gets any attention for being loud.

I'm pretty sure they do exhausts for skylines, have a hunt around

Also the legal dB limit is 90dB

I'm thinking i remember around 94dB. The actual law in ACT is derived from year made and weight. They have several classes - i don't remember anything more specific than that though.

If you weren't legal - you wouldn't have passed, they are reasonably thorough.

Whether you buy from online or go local, I recommend talking to Woody at City Custom Exhaust, he's a champ and knows what he's talking about. He'd happily fit anything you supply. Haven't had any luck with Roadway. I took a Civic there from which some idiot had removed the flex section of the exhaust. Instead of knowing or figuring out that Civic's are transverse engines and need a section of flex, they just welded it up again which of course came loose soon after, making me think I had some crazy stuff happening. And that's with a LOCAL car. Woody figured it out in 1 minute flat. I wouldn't take an import there unless you are supplying them with all the parts, they gave the cheapest quote and you can check the work yourself.

RE legality in volume, I agree with someone above: last I heard/read, it was 90dB measured from the rear of the car, from the opposite corner to where the actual exhaust canon/whatever is. DON'T let them jam it up IN the exhaust! Seen that happen before and of course it doesn't pass... heaps of standard cars wouldn't pass if measured that way.

is that 300mm because they never compensated for the Cat ? because when i baught my trust pipe it stuck out like dogs balls and then the guy that installed it for me cut it down so it didnt stick out that much. how ever it doesnt sit 100% even through the stock body kit like it sits off to the right a bit i just cut a little section out of my back bumber but nothing noticable.

"sorry delay the last. i miss read. i understand now that you have the extra 300mm because its a wagon not a skyline. but when i baught my pipe it had extra length because it came from japan where i dont think they have a Cat in the system or somin like that, so there was an extra 300mm in mine"

    • I've been building a 26/30 for a few years now. I've had the head built with all the good stuff. I had a 32 gtr but blew it up and yes its all going into a vl but im looking for some advice from some RB nuts on pros and cons on putting a 26 head on a 30 bottom end is it worth it Works are as follows Head -Extensive porting 1mm oversized supertech valves Supertech double springs Supertech valve guides Supertech titanium retainers Tomei solid lifters Tomei 270 x 10.25 cams Head drain Bottom end series 2 rb30 block Cp ceramic coated pistons Eagle rods Romac balancer Oil restrictions  O ringed blah blah spent a fortune And will get a girdle because the 30s arent used to handling that much rpm Nitto billet oil pump Hypertune plenum 6boost mani Refurbed astra pump thats the cover for it in the boot I did have a precision 6262 but sold it because drag car life. Currently building the ass end full 4 link floater rear end with a 2 speed  But the dilemma i have is my mate rekens I should just stick with the 30 head for reliability. Has any one had any issues with mounting the 26 head ie compression blowing gaskets etc. Just looking for some advice from people who have gone down this route. Here's some photos. Blew the oil pump in the gtr and decided to rip the motor out at the time and do a full build only to find it had been a repairable write off so went down this path.

    • lol no cats running str pipes … might put the high flow back on but I suspect it might effect my ignition timing a bit.
    • That looks a bit like yellowing to me. If the rear bar was looking like that from rich idle, I'd ask the question, do you have a catalytic converter fitted, and fully working?
    • Oh yeah gets really bad down here. I’ll have to upgrade the heater and wind screen wipers as well for optimal performance.
