hey guys im building a rb26dett

so far it has

forged pistons

h beam rods

acl race bearings

recon head

cometic gasket

n1 oil pump

extended drive

stock turbs and stock dumps to kakimoto exhaust

i am going to order some GT2860R-5 to fit to the new engine before it goes in as i dont like the idea of doing it while the engine is in the car.and ive read that the standard turbs can be engine destroying mongrels.

where is the cheapest place to get the GT2860R-5?

and also what boost would you suggest i run considering i wont be able to afford cams pfc and injecters for about 6 months or so?

any other advise would be great

thanks johnny

Don't run more than 1Bar boost before you get your turbo's.

Your injectors and pump will have problems when you slap these turbo's on.

So if you can...get your fuel pump, regulator and injectors put on at the same time.

You will need to tune the engine only once then.

If you are looking for -5 Turbo's...there are lots of sponsors who sell these on this Forum.

Cheers.

made around 450 AWHP with stock cams and bottom end and 2860-5 turbos pfc 600cc injectors etc etc. did adjust the cams 2 degrees advance on the inlet and 4 retard on exhaust.

And get yourself a PFC and injectors as no point with turbos if these are not going in with them.

i will be getting a pfc and injectors but not for a few months as my budget will be blown as i have just put all the money into a forged bottom end and turbos, its much easier for me to fit the turbos now while the engine is out of the car,so basicly you guys are saying i wont be able to drive the car with the bigger turbos on until i get a pfc, pump and injectors yeah? even at a low bost of say 7psi?

johnny

You can drive the car around without any problems at all. You dont need to get the injectors etc just because you have the 2860's.

The 2860's will need the support to make any sort of decent power but run your usual boost and live happily till you can afford the supports.

Give the thing time to settle in if nothing else anyways.

sweet thats what i was hoping for :sorcerer:

before i screw any boost into these turbs they will definetly have the support mods needed to make the power.

Hmm not so sure about that but i may well be talking out my cannon here but flow of .8 bar from stock turbos is quite a bit less than .8 bar from the 2860-5.

Although pressure is the same you will be pumping lots more volume of air, my old car just made over 400awhp at stock boost with the 2860-5 turbos. If you baby the car around for the next how ever long you could get away with it if your lucky, i dont think i could resist a little squirt here and there though and there would be the problem.

Please check with others as i may well be talking shite as i seem to quite often.

400hp atw with stock boost! woah wasnt expecting them to make that :(

i would have thought 400atw would need around 18-19psi and all supporting mods

johnny

yep but that is with a PFC, 600 cc injectors, big fuel system, altered cam timing, etc and a bloody good tune.

From my limited knowledge we are talking about a lot more flow at .8 bar from the 2860-5 than stock.

Just be careful and check your AFR and knock

been posted for some time.

Johnnyt be careful if you plan to run the car without having it tuned when running larger turbos

Good luck with it make a big difference when you get all the mods

This is why I stated you do the fuel/ turbo/ tune/with(PFC) at the same time.,

Or you may be looking at engine problems.

yer i reckon so as well hence the reason i said in this thread over 400HP

But fear not it is going back on the dyno on saturday as boost controller has arrived at last so what would you like to see as i dont know much about dynos.

All the tunner from subzero did was lots of fiddling then pushed a few buttons on the dyno controler and reved the engine up to 8100 in 4th gear fiddled the ECU (or his laptop infact) a bit more did the 4th gear thing a few more times, then gave me the sheet.

How the hell do you calibrate a dyno or know if its calibrated?

ye, but 330rwkw @ 14psi is a bit hard to take dont you think?

Hence people are asking the question etc

hmmm yeah, i like the way all the suspect ones have the correction figures missing off the bottom.... even though there are still a few dodge one with tampered IT figures.

    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks
