I got my carbon fibre bonnet from speed dreams and paid about $1250 from memory. Technically they are illegal from any police point of view, altho you will have less troubles if you make sure that none of the vents are forward facing, cos that for sure is illegal according to regency, which of course is crap consider our locally made coonadore is made with twin forward facing vents....go figure!

i thought that they were only illegal if the outside edges of the bonnet wasnt wider than the a-pillars, so in a crash if the bonnet is pushed back they slide up the a-pillars insted of going through the window and doing a bad things to the driver. wrx's have forward facing scoops to?? wtf. but i thought that it was rear facing vents were illigeal for the reason if oil spits up and out it will go over the window. i dont car i just want a nice 1! the look tuf!

They are illegal due to something to do with the factor of them in a crash.

Vents are illegal if they chop the panel reinforcing inner, if they dont they must have mesh fitted to stop fingers going in. They can face anyway.

Cops will defect on sight, regardless if they are illegal or not. Painting them is a waste as the wank factor of having a cf is to show it off in the first place.

The r32 gtr bonnet weighs the same anyway, and is aluminium as u know.

The best place to get one is to stand outside regency and wait for someone to come through whose sick of being defected and wants to get rid of it fast. How many cars do u see normally driving around with one? Theres a reason

As Bl4ck32 said.

In an accident they shatter and can/ will go through the windscreen slicing anything in it's path.

Get a GTR bonnet. and if u really want the CF look get the contact that andrew got for his interior and roll it all over the gtr bonnet.

There ya go lightweight gtr bonnet with wank factor of the cf contact. HAHAHAH best of both worlds.

A carbon fibre bonnet doesnt have any suports to cut as its a one peice mould, your more refering to putting a vent onto an existing bonnet.

Either way, before i bought my bonnet i rang regency and the basic explanation i got was that any vents should be made of the same material as the bonnet and that you couldnt have any forward facing vents. I told them i was looking at a carbon fibre bonnet and no comment was made to the bonnet being illegal, they did however mention bonnet pins being illegal, so you have to buy a bonnet with the correct catch moulded in.

Just what i got told, not saying its gospel, if you ring regency it seems to depend on who you get to speak to as to what answer you get!

    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
