quickest car i ever been in was a gtir. modded ofcourse.

similar to LTHLRB - a mate also owns one, did drive it hard and blew the box. been sitting in his garage for about 6 months now, not cheap to repair....

its one of those cars.....always loved em, but would never buy one.

they are not that weak. I ran mine with 180 odd 4wkw for a fair few years and I don't think anyone could suggest i didn't drive it hard. plenty of 7000rpm launches in it! BUT no flat changes, and a bit of mechanical sympathy is important. also short shifter is not a good idea, and the type of clutch you buy has an impact too. but i wouldn't say their boxes are fragile, it's just you need to be a little smart to keep them happy. apart from that they are good. they only weigh around 1200kg, can easily put out 2004wkw with standard turbo and injectors and at that power will dust off most mildly modded skylines. they do NEED a brake upgrade though as they come with shit brakes. top little car though, and a steal at current prices.

I owned one briefly.... but mine was a lemon..... previous owner dodged the maintenance records amongst other things.....

My mate had one also .... awesome car.. but it did have $40K spent on it at Rigolis!

In stock form I'd go the gtir over anything else in the same price bracket just because SR20 powah (and build quality) and the lack of money that needs spending to get it go faster..... although can be a b!tch to work on at times according to my dad (mechanic).....

GTIR drivetrain is a heap stronger than any wrx of the same year model.... our 97 wagon (clubspec) has done two gearboxes and the next time its straight cut gears! Also to me the wrx feels like its made of plastic.... but thats just personal opinion...

Fast little car,

If you ever buy one or import one, make sure it comes with exhaust already as its can be a bitch to fabricate a proper system. As for the clutch, if you need to change, get something that worth it as you would need to lift the engine up a bit and just chuck REDLINE shock proof in it and the box will be fine, offcourse don't abuse it too much.

What can i say about SR20, they are great 4cylinders, respond to mods as good as EVO if not better, engine and parts availability is much more as well. Oh also don't forget the quad throttles respond (was it quad throttles?).

Better interior than R32gtr :P, semi bucket seats, CUP HOLDERS ;).........

    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
