i was looking around for stainless steel intake pipes for my rb25de does any1 know where to get one or any1 who could make one and if so how much??

Chat to STR8E180 on ns.com he can custom fabricate alot of stuff.. Although I don't know if you'll get much out of a stainless intake pipe on a N/A? Except maybe sound..

thats wat its for cause there a box on the side of hte intake pipe which is a resonator/muffler/watever other people called it. it will give me more intake noise with just the straight pipe inot the plenum

where abouts you located in sydney dyken? .. i could weld up an intake pipe for you in stainless

or you could go to a local exhaust shop and get them to make it up

ill goto 2 places tomorrow and get prices.. if you can do the job without seeing the car and send the pipe even better and ill transfer money via bank deposit i'de rather give money to a skyline owner than anyone

dont know anyone with an NA r33 so i couldnt make it without seeing the car

hey when mine was na i just used the standard turbo intake manifold section worked really well attached the air flow meter and then a pod, easy as to do, if you wanted to know how to make one up "craved" just need to build up a pipe that goes from your throttle body and come over the top of the engine down into a section that will bolt up to the air flow meter in the exact spot where the turbo one sits, and then weld the 2 pipes i think it is, 1 for the head gass realease and the other that i think from memory goes and bypasses the manifold and on to the idle control valve thing\y

i havent been able to yet see my local exhaust shop..

what would be best suited for this, stainless steel or aluminium, because my freinds went to the same place i am going to goto and he cannot weld aluminium.

i dont really want to use parts from another skyline i would much prefer a new one made from scratch..

he is basically saying that the std airbox is in the same place for N/A and Turbo .. same goes for the TB

Alloy is lighter - harder to maintain the same surface finish without working on it

stainless is heavier - but once you install it it will look the same after time

mild steel is sorta a happy medium with strengh, weldability and defonatly has good durability, weight is ok but i dont think it is the best for heat transfer, out of your two i would take stainless, aluminium will melt when trying to weld it, i think you can only use a tig welder on it and still can have troubles really needs to be done by a professional but ifg your going to an exhaust joint they will use either stainless or mild steel.

ask in the fabricatinon section what material might be the best,, some of the members looking in there might know some good info, spech some specs on what will be the best to keep the temps down,

Alloy can be mig'd - needs a new liner in the MIG (teflon), and Argon gas - mainly TIG'd though

Welding is Melting the metal .. so of course alloy melts :3some:

Mild steel needs to be coated/painted or it rusts - other 2 wont.

temps down is a tough one ... stainless retains heat more than alloy , but once hot alloy will cool down quicker .. best to keep it here as the fabrication section is for how to do something yourself, not generic questions like this.

stick with alloy or stainless.. make your choice according to the look your after (rest seems a bit of over thinking :spank: )

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.     • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
