Id like to hear from all you guys that have dropped in an rb25 into the r32

just wanna know what happends with the vin number and all that stuff at vicroads

do you need engineers to change it?

my engine blew and i wanna drop in the 25 but im worried about the legal BS

insurance i suppose will also be an issue?

cheers

not sure if it is the same in vic but i know for QLD if you change your engine to something that was not designed from factory to be in there then you have to get and engineer to approve it, as far as rego goes the VIN is the same you just take the engineer cert to the dept of transport along with the new egine number, in QLD you also get a mod plate put on the car

the r32 came out with an rb25de from factory. so dropping an rb25 into an r32 shouldnt have any problems with rego.

as far as i know, in NSW - if the car came out with an rb26 as the biggest engine and you drop in another of the same series engine that is 2.6L or smaller than you dont need engineering for it.

which means if you dropped in an rb30 you would need engineering.

best thing to do would be to ring up your local rta and ask.

You need an engineers cert.

The motor is over a 100cc upgrade.

What you do is, contact the engineer first before the conversion.

Have a chat to them, tell them your intentions, and they will tell you what is required and what they will need to see done.

Things like brake upgrades, gearbox upgrades, that sort of thing and whatever else they deem neccesary.

There is a list of Engineers on the VicRoads website :)

cheers

The people that have not bothered, generally have been bitten on the ass.

Once you get a cop that has half an idea, you are put off the roads instantly until you fix it.

Which costs you $$$ as you gotta tow the car everywhere.

If you ask me, do it right the first time and it wont haunt you later on.

Especially because the engineer is probably going to ask for brake upgrade etc etc.

Which is more for your own safety than anything else even if you think the car doesnt need it

still like to hear from someone who's done the upgrade

if they even bothered getting the engineers?

I put a Stagea RB25DET into a R32 GTS4. All I did was tell VicRoads that I had changed the engine. They checked that the engine# on the block matched the Engine# on the piece of paper - "Robert is your father's brother".

i just spoke to an engineer he said to do it properly you need to change the whole drive line to the r33's

then get it registered all standard then what you do to it after that is up to you bigger tubro ect ect ect.

i think im just gonna re build my 20 and strengthen all the internals and keep all my mods

if i get epa'ed at least ive got all the standard parts to change back

otherwise i might as well just buy an r33

did he say anything about the brakes? ive got a s2 box with the 25 so im assuming thats ok? I thought you only really had to change the breaks if you put a turbo engine into a non turbo car - 4stud brakes and shit ?

yeah thats right..

he didn't say anything about brakes but basically the whole drive line diff box ect ect

im not too sure about exact things but it sounded like way too much stuf

the thing is its ok if you got a stock looking engine bay

with me i have a top mount manifold to a big ass turbo its no where near stock

a cop will take one look and send me to epa. its not that hard to change bolt on parts back to standard but epa will see its a bigger engine i would have to change the whole thing back

does anyone know how to get more low down torque/power out of the rb20?

by doing engine work that cant be seen like Flowing the heads? would that give more power

im already gonna put forgies conrods and stuff but i want more low down power

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
