hey all, iv done a search but the results only come up with painting the covers

iv noticed that the screws on the rockers covers are quit loose,

for example, with a screw driver i can easily turn them both ways, feels like they can be tightened quit a bit more,

i was wondering should i tighten them up or are they meant to be like this, all of them are the same. is there a specific torque they are meant to be tightened to?

cheers

definitely do em up. I've found that the rb cam cover screws are notorious for working themselves loose. Half of the cars that have oil seeps/leaks from the cam cover actually have gaskets that are still in good condition, just that the screws were loose.

My car was one of those - i was prepared to buy new gaskets, and change em, but decided to check the torque first. Some of them could be undone with your finger.

if the screws are loose that means oil has worked its way in the thread. There fore if you just screw them up they will come loose again next week. they all need to be cleaned an oil free before puting them back in also check the thread holes and clean them out. not an easy job but if you dont do it right the first time you know the rest.

torquing those bolts is not that important. I just did mine up with a screw driver carefully.

If you think about it, it's pretty hard to overtorque a screw using a screwdriver. you have no leverage on it. Just make sure you use a good screwdriver, and dont' strip the screw. I used a good one, and didn't mark the screw at all.

Yep, hit the nail on the head.

RB rocker cover bolts are notorious for working loose even if you tighten the crap out of them.

The spec say something like 8Nm, but that stupid i have found.

Just torque the farkers up until you think the rubber is getting excessively squashed.

And you can check them as part of your service routine every 6 months.

drive around with no rocker covers on sounds funny lol

but realy you do need them tight

Would look funny too with all the fire coming from under the hood because of the burning oil :)

After seeing the bright red tubular manifold when on the dyno at Dr. Drifts I think I better tighten mine a bit more as well!

    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.
