Cubes
I'm really tired of the RB20DET off boost lack or torque. Basically you can't have a mid 200rwkw - 300rwkw RB20DET. Soo.... I'm building one its not like i'm going to fit it in to the R32... :bahaha: Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/16462-time-for-a-rebuild/page/3/#findComment-354395 Share on other sites
B-Man
And he's trying to convince me to do the same ! Good on ya Joel ! whatsisname - I share your pain dude ! Same thing happened to me just recently too - However, I'm EMS equipped. I went through a phase (2 actually) of wanting to sell my car, but then I came to my senses. Unlike yourself, it's my decision alone, so that makes it easier for me. I'm now doing some research to what spec/bits to rebuild. Joel & others keep telling me to do it myself cause it is easy (just got to do a bit of running around, etc, then maybe get somone to put it all back together when all the hard yards are done) Good luck dude, I'll be keeping an eye on your progress. Cheers, Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/16462-time-for-a-rebuild/page/3/#findComment-354410 Share on other sites
whatsisname
Brad, Yep, all sensible advice mate. Had already planned to do as you've posted. Swap cars? Ahh... no thanks Joel, Don't worry mate, my 33 will be seeing A LOT more k's after the rebuild. It still won't see daily duties but it'll be hitting the road as often as possible B-Man, G'day mate. What exactly let go on your engine? Which cylinder/s? Ahh yes... if only it were my decision alone I don't have the time, tools, or faith in my limited knowledge, to do a full rebuild myself (including sourcing all the parts). It's a lot of $$$ to shell out, so I'd rather people who know EXACTLY what they're doing tackle the task. Ivan & the RPM guys have looked after me well in the past, & they will this time too I'll update the forum on my rebuild progress as it happens. Cheers, Matt Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/16462-time-for-a-rebuild/page/3/#findComment-358275 Share on other sites
GTR King
Put some good cams in it, Def worth the bucks :] Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/16462-time-for-a-rebuild/page/3/#findComment-358377 Share on other sites
Cubes
The standard cams are good up to 300rwkw od.. So the $1000 for cams is a bit of a waste I think better spent on a GT30 Turbo Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/16462-time-for-a-rebuild/page/3/#findComment-358641 Share on other sites
B-Man
Matt, Sorry mate, I can't remember which cylinders - they did tell me, but I forgot - it was over a month ago when it happened - I'll get a comp tester out one day soon and check again..... B-Man
Yeah - maybe I did - but I can't recall - Is there a significance if particular cylinders let go ??? whatsisname
No not really mate, I was just interested to see which one/s let go on yours. No1 & No6 are the usual culprits. Guest mmdb
hi i couldn't help but read this post. I was from another room of this forum and he/she told me to come here, so i read up 'n stuff. I'm in the states (us) and was thinkin' about putting in a rb25det in my s14a. I was aiming for 350 to 400 hp, but when i came across this thread it concerned me What would you guys recommend to do to keep the motor reliable enough for a daily driver? I plan on building up the motor before i put it in my car. If all else fails maybe get a sr20det and build that up I'm lost once again Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/16462-time-for-a-rebuild/page/3/#findComment-397079 Share on other sites
Cubes
A late model SR20 are very good motors.. Nice fat torque curve which is good for the street. It all comes down to tuning if its tuned well it will live if not and it is tuned to on the edge it will die if you get a slight bad batch of fuel or a slight lean out. It all comes down to leaving a little bit of head room or safe play when tuning.
