Hey there people

Im currently interested in purchasing a new pod filter for my car so i thought i'd consult fellow Sau ppl on which one i should get. I have a old mushroom pod no brand thats playing up & looking to upgrade to something better. I've had some good feedback about Apexi power Intakes & K&N pods & HKS ones. I'm still in a decision of which one to get as i don't know which POD performs better than the other? Or best. Any1 have feedback or reviews of how their POD performs or with their car? which might be the best pod to purchase overall? Would be great as it would help my decision. Thanks for your time

actually it depends how much hp u have under the hood. My car is timed to 233.5kw@wheels and using K&N drop in replacements filter which is highflow. This was recommended by Ben from Racepace. He said no need to use pods unless when you are going for high hp really high!! But from memory the drop in filters is good for 300kw@wheels.

At first i thaught of changing to a pod filter but other than the niose it makes theres no power up or wat soever.

But if you really want pod i think i would use the K&N. Remember higher flow means less filter. Also may i suggest using a heat shield no use using a pod w/o a heat shield it will decrease the performance cos it sucks in hot air.

Hope it helps. Good luck on it

Only problem with Drift and K&N is that they are oiled filters, after a while they can foul your AFM.

In a recent review, Autosalon Mag voted 3A Racing filters the best it got 1st for Flow and 2nd on filtration. And they are only cheap.

First on filtration was K&N which also got 4th on flow.

In the test were HKS Direct Drive(6th flow/9th filtr), Apexi Power Intake (7th flow/6th filtr) and Trust Airinx (5th flow/7th filtr) to name a few.

3A RACING Power Stack Filter

The 3A Racing Power Stack has all the

features & finish of the Simota Power Stack.

Width 160mm Height 130mm Neck 77mm

so what the hell is the difference between simota and 3A? is 3A the Australian outlet for simota?

check the pages out too, almost EXACTLY the same...

At previous job we used to buy them from the same supplier!!!

There must be some difference coz the Simota got a lower rating than the 3A in the review.

They had the same colour options too!!!

its kinda weird...

not to mention most race cars i've seen tend to use foam filters anyway :D and a very wise mechanic guy i know says they are better... not particularly for flow, but to keep shit out of your engine...

Depends on aplication, if your ralling you want an oiled air filter to catch the fine dirt but for general driving un-oiled filters are fine.

K&N flitrate very well, the US using them in their Apaches due to the fine particles in the desert!!! All the fine stuff sticks to the oil, the rest is caught by the cotton gauze.

Some foam filters are bad, I had a HKS filter and they are known for sucking in dirt round the seams so i changed it for a Blitz!!

so why wouldn't you want the best for your car? :D

is the flow on a foam filter noticably worse then on a pod filter? or mesh filter... what ever you wanna call em...

Blitz looks good and its blue!!! :D

On a standardish car you wouldnt notice the difference with flow differences!!

But if you can get one rated as the best for round $20 I hav it!!!

Its just not as pretty!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you use to many of these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well mine is down where the standard intercooler once was.. you cant really see it... :(

Sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

There's nothing wrong with oiled filters.

Some guys think its a sin to have oiled filters because it apparently "fouls up your AFM".

Don't over oil your filter and you'll be ok. If you have over oiled your filter and your worried, then clean your AFM with some electrical contact cleaner and you'll be set.

For me, K&N Filters FTW.
