Hi guys,

I'm no audiophile, but do want to 'listen' to music while driving. So i am keen to do some sound deadening just on my doors to improve it a bit.

I am looking at getting one piece of this stuff on each door AX3688 from jaycar (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AX3688&CATID=&keywords=ax36&SPECIAL=&form=KEYWORD&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=)

Normally when u take the door trim off you just stick this stuff on the panel right (under the plastic protector)?

Has anyone done this before? How did you find the results?

Any comments would be great. The other option was to get the dynamat stuff for $150 to do both doors.

Any deadening is better than none. Just make sure the surfaces are really clean before you start - use a wax and grease remover to clean the surfaces (eg prepsol). Make sure you have a wooden roller or equivalent to really work down the deadener.

If you look in the stickied thread at the top of this forum 'How to install speakers in Skyline doors' it has a couple of examples of deadening in Skylines.

the Jaycar stuff is good, personally i use the Stinger stuff.

door trims off

plastic sheeting off

wipe down door with wax and grease remover

apply deadener

cut holes where you will need to pull stuff through (power winder looms, power mirror, door lock mech speaker holes)

door trim back on.

Most of the sound deadening commercailly available is made from the same stuff anyway.

Just make sure you clean the surfaces well, then make sure the deadeding sticks.

You should notice quite a difference in general output and midbass response from the speakers.

thanks for the feedback. esp cleutin. gives me an idea how much work is involved.

how much is the stinger brand sheets u use? Neat looking install btw.

p.s i Think ill give the jaycar stuff a go - the only thing with their products is that they dont have adhesive, so will go to bunning for that. Any recommendations on adhesive products?

frx & cleutin,

do you use a heat torch to make it softer to squeze into all the ridges? or let it sit in the sun at all?

Or not really necessary?

clean the surface and stick on - that simple. I use dyn extreme on most of my jobs.

I have used a heat gun sometimes, especially here in melbourne in the middle of winter when it is so cold.

But Chris Rogers in QLD would most likely never have to use one.

The key is to take your time.

Clean the surface well with a wax and grease remover. Apply the sound deadening one sheet at a time.

Jaycar also has the bitumen base stuff, which you peal one side and stick on, just search CAT. NO. AX3684 (link was too long) it's 2x330 square sheets at $25

I bought 3 packs which only done about half a door each - bottom half of inside door skin and speaker side half of door(R33).

FYI Autobarn sells the Dynamat stuff - $239 for a roll that apparently can do both doors and the boot.

    • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo. I just put over 7000k USD to "LINK" up my engine...dont want to blow it up with cheap turbo 😄     EDIT: https://www.cj-motor.com/gcg-turbo-charger-for-nissan-rb20det-rb25det-high?srsltid=AfmBOooVeOZ6CZ6r1AIv5m-KPaa6BvudIPJTY8LW78khkd-gQlsaCht9 I looked at this and it seems ok? It is that CGC hybrid and it costs around 1250 USD (with back shipping). Do any of you have experience with this hybrid on NEO turbo? I quickly look thru the forum/web and it seems very good.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
