Found a place selling the same laptimers that the vic guys bought from UAS when they were up in NSW for a good price in the US. Convinced them to ship to Australia... Price is < 300AUD for one landed. Me and snowy are going to get one, just thought i'd see if anyone else wants one before we order...

You can order yourself from here, or we may be able to save a few $ shipping if we order together... up to you... Here's the link.

Update: Just order in Pairs, see my post below about shipping costs, it's only a couple of dollars savings if you do more than 2... not worth the hassle, so find a partner to order with. Nick and Anthony & Matt maybe you guys can work something out? You could order 3 together, or wait and see if someone else wants one then do 2 lots of 2?

FYI - the cheapest place locally we can find them is $399 - some sell them for as high as $650! lol

So $270odd is pretty damn cheap. (I know Chris is going to cry over that price. hehe)

But they are an awesome thing to have in your car on the track. I always thought they were overated until I used one.

Not the cable doesn't come with it. However - you don't need it. See below.

Features

High-contrast green LCD display (6V version)

Built-in clock and calendar

Built-in lap management database

Stores up to 50 track names

Lap times histogram display

Configurable number of split times

128 kb non-volatile memory stores up to 1200 laps

Optional USB cable for gauge configuration, data download and firmware upgrade

Additional trackside lap and segment beacons available

Water resistant (IP 65 standard)

Rubber pushbuttons

Simple and friendly configuration menus

Two year limited warranty

I'm definitely in for one. But $275 USD == $330 AUD? Are you sure the pricing is correct?

Depends which one you want. I think all the guys currently have the 6v one which is cheaper. If you want the blue screen, 12v one you can grab that just will cost you a bit more....

Will update first post with who's in.

Does anyone know what the laws are with customs with this? I think if we keep it < 1000AUD inc postage they won't bother us. So if it gets over 1000US we may do 2 separate orders shipped to different addresses to avoid customs....

ok here are the shipping costs from 1-4 units...

1 = 27.45 shipping or 27.45 per unit

2 = 32.15 shipping or 16.08 per unit

3 = 41.30 shipping or 13.76 per unit

4 = 45.80 shipping or 11.45 per unit

If you order 4 its going to be just over 1000AUD with shipping so might get hit with customs, not worth it.

I think we are best to order in pairs... so find yourself a partner (from this thread :wave: ) and organise it between yourselves... or order one yourself it's only a $10 saving by ordering together.... Also means if you guys want extra accessories (usb cable etc..) then you could grab one at the same time.

top thread ferni and good find on that US place.

I was originally going to get one from from UAS which is the cheapest I could find in aus, but your link was cheaper. Anyway, I rang john and told him I found a cheaper place and that I was going to grab one direct from the US he made a few calls and told me if he ups his order to more units he gets a better price and can then do a more competetive price for us, plus he does warranty returns etc from his shop in sydney (as he buys from the aus distributor, not parallel import). that would save you shelling out $27USD is postage each way if something went wrong. Plus it keeps john in cardigans and short pants for another week or so.

He also advised me strongly to get the backlit version as the 6V one he reckons is not so hot, and only the 12V version is backlit (has the blue screen). it's dead easy to just wire up a little plug so you can plug it in and out (I'm going to buy some cheap plugs from jaycar so I can have one in the GTR and one in the alfa).

If you guys are keen John can do a good price for us, I would rather get it from him personally as I know the guy and know if something goes wrong with it he'll get it sorted. It's not up to me to say what price he is willing to do but I will say it's very competetive. very, very competetive. lol.

Just email him [email protected] if you want to get in on it.

maybe we should put this in motorsport section?

so they come with track-side IR beacons?

and if its IR, does this mean that only one person needs to setup their beacon on the side of the track, and everyone with the same unit can run off that one?

yes and yes - it's why we like them :blink:

Other cool feature is if a few people have setup their IR transmitters trackside near yours, after the first signal which is received by the laptimer there is a delay timer during which it will ignore the subsequent signals so you don't get 2-3 second split times.

    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks
