Franky, why did Shannons 'pull the plug'?

just out of nowhere you got a letter saying they won't cover you any more? if so, what was their reasoning?

i got a speeding ticket and lost four points last year...

they would not renew the policy any more....according to this woman on the phone, i am a dangerous driver to the rest of the community...

just cars is about 600 dollars cheaper, but only agree to insure mine for 43gs..while shannons used to insure mine for 46gs...

never made a claim, never had anything...i should be on rating 1 now as well...

they said once i turn 25 and been clean for a while, i can call them back...i doubt that will ever happen...

remind you i had three policies with them at the same time...now i have cancelled them all...

That he told them the truth and they accepted that? Nothing strange there..

What is strange, and unacceptable is the large variation on insurance quotes BY THE SAME PERSON for the SAME CAR merely due to the time a person called. I don't even know whether that is legal..

And which company you basing this on?

Can you elaborate on that please?

Most of them, my own experiences with justcar, and pretty much a post in every insurance thread stating the wide variation people get when they speak to insurance company. "Sorry we can't insure you" or "to insure will cost you $xx"... person calls back, speaks to somebody else "sure we can insure you, it's $yy".

It's like if I walked into a shop and asked for a loaf of bread, and was given 3 different prices depending on which person was behind the counter.

It is probably not illegal, but just silly..

as I have posted MANY times - each person has their OWN different risk

Alot of factors determine peoples premiums

I can garuntee that if you rang the same company, different days with same situiations - you'll get same price

but comparing you and me for example - is like comparing an xbox 360 game to a commodore 64 game

MASSIVE difference!

Shannons will insure under 25's....

i'm insured with them for agreed value, with all my mods, and i'm 23

hi there.. how did u get shannons to insure you? when i tried to get my 34 under them.. the guy on de phone said that they don't cover imports n i have to call just cars or young n cool..

cheers

hahahaha

you sure it was that they said?

man - everyone seems to have a bad story here!

*grabs another beer*

traman18 - please read post 46 - just 4 posts up

yes sire, but I had asked people for an average price. goes without saying that it will vary, depend on various factors, but an average price wouldnt hurt... would it?

I did find today tho that RAA in SA have a division that cover "normally uninsurable cars" but its only open to SA residents. Dore underwriting cover imports too but want $2900....hahahahaha that more then double what i pay now

interesting....

how long between losing the points and getting the letter saying they won't insure you any more?

was your insurance up for renewal when you got the letter?

I signed up with Justcars and they gave me a rating 1 even though i probably should have been on rating 6. Been driving for over 5 years so they told me they would be glad to give me a rating one since i've been dringing so long. They never mentioned anything about speedding fine even though i have a few; havent had any for over 2 and half years but anyway they never mentioned if i had any. This is for a stock 97 skyline r33 gtst. I'm 23. Insured for $14k. Insurance cost me under $1200

Five years! Wow, that is a long time! :)

Read your agreement - the onus is on you to declare. They will happily take your money until you have to make a claim. Then they'll investigate, find your fines and decline your cover.

its about a few months...

and yes as the renewal letter came in, i received a call at mean time telling me they are unable to renew my GTR's policy. but i was more than welcome to insure my camry and my property with them

its all history now...just cars is as good...

this is the main reason why i wanna sel my car and just buy a normal car to drive around...

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
