Fantastic start to the day this morning. On my way to work from taringa, got stuck in a traffic jam. After 10 minutes of not moving, and no oncoming traffic, decided to do a U turn, only to get smashed into by a van going the wrong way in the opposite lane. Farken fantastic. And on top of that, the guy reckons it's not his fault as he had the right of way and i turned into him. So, now due to not having comprehensive insurance, i have a possible shitfight on my hands and may have to sue. I am hoping his insurance company will see the light of day and i wont have to sue them, as there is no possible way he can describe the accident in a light where he is not at fault.

Biggest pain in the ass is, i don't know when the hell i will get my car back. Might post up some pics tomorrow when it's light. Front right guard is gone, bonet has a kink in the corner, front bumper is nearly ripped off, my right headlight has replaced the grile's spot in the centre of the car. FMIC has copped a couple of dents as well. All in all, he did a great job of keeping me off the road. Luckily the cooler wasn't punctured, so was able to limp the car home, with the front guard scraping the wheel.

Can anybody recommend a decent workshop in the Toowoong area? Was thinking of asking them to order a gtr front bumper instead of my standard series two one. Depending on the company, they may do it. Hopefully they will order the right front mount, as i have one that uses the standard piping....

all in all, farken pissed off.

hmmm sorry to hear...without credible witnesses, its ur word against the other and I doubt the other persons insurance company is gonna side you and pay you out...good luck. obviously this is not ur first acco....might I ask why you don't have full comp yet?

only have fire and theft. have been driving for 9 years without incident, so didn't get it, plus i am cheap.... well, i suppose that will teach me.

i just don't see how he will be able to explain what he was doing in a light that will make him seem not at fault. he was going the wrong way down the road, overtaking stationary cars. had a chat to the police, and they told me that (if the even happened as i told it) he is clearly at fault.

I have damage to the front right corner, and he has it to the right middle of his van. it happened on a single lane road (one lane each way), so i can't see how he would be able to explain how i ran into the right side of him without saying he was going the wrong way down the road.

not sure if the picture is really clear, as i don't really draw on computer much

traffic jam, so cars were not moving at all. literally. for about 5 minutes. so i then decided to do a u turn (hence my gay blinker drawn on), as i turned, he was in the wrong lane, going down the road, and he hit me. didn't see him, and didn't think to check behind me as i didn't expect anybody to be driving on that side. at least in that direction..

i am hoping it will be just him at fault, as i got a fair few bent pannels on the car. went down to the police station, and was told that he would be clearly at fault, as long as the incident happened as i told it. so we shall have to wait and see.

messes up my week though. so pissed off.

First of all did you fill out a traffic accident report with the police, if not make it a priority to do so.

Second, witnesses would be good.

Take a photograph of the road where it happened.

Also where was the driver of the van think he was going down the wrong side of the road?

The best investment of any accident is One camera in your car, take photos of everything, damage to your car his car where it happened then draw a diagram on paper to present this to his insurance company, do the incident report that has be spoken of above, get as many witnesses as you can. Then you have a clear win, but at this stage it could go back your word against his.

Good Luck with it

police said that for the ammount of damage done to the car they usually don't fill out a report, but gave me his details and said he would speak with insurance or anybody else if needed.

He was cutting across traffic as he wanted to take a right turn approximately 15m in front of me. 4 or so cars ahead.

No witnesses :P

The copper is just being a lazy bastard trying to get out of paper work, thats bullshit go into the closest station where it happened and ask for a traffic accident report to be filled out or go and see the copper who just passed you on to the next one.

When claiming for insurance you want an incident report.

how did you manage to have no witnesses if traffic was banked up?

Definately get an accident report. It is essential in explaining your argument. Cop was just being lazy. Fair enough if there was only a bit of paint exchanged but if dented panels and just about ripping your front bumper off that has got to be enough.

Hope everything works out for you.

we pulled into a side street, and no farker came out. was too busy checking out the damage on my car to look for a witness. slipped my mind. wasn't exactly rational. i thought i was doing well by keeping myself from choking him.

chatting to the insurance again tomorrow, so may have to get a police report. getting quotes for the damage repair tomorrow so once i know how much it will cost to fix the cops may have to get involved if it is over 5k

i would think that the other guy would be at fault for using the other lane to speed down.....for all he knows, you could ahve been turning right. The question is, if you were turning right is it your right of way or his right of way. Id think its your right of way.

March down to the police station and put in a report def. If you car was that damaged by some moron who thinks that it was a one way street with 2 lanes, you shoudl be ok im thinking.

edit: did you check your mirror too? Cos the other driver might use that against u in some way or form

Ive seen front bars for less than $200 bucks and people selling wrecked skylines. Shop around first you could probly do most of the repairs yourself.

And once again there doesnt have to be a set $$$$$$$ limit to fill out an accident report if there is an insurance claim being made.

Its like if your house is broken into and your camera gets stolen. You want to make a claim, you must notify the police and make a report.

Same as a traffic accident if the other party is saying that he is not responsible.

hey if its any consilation my old girl was coming home from work today and got run off the road, pretty serious accident, bent chasis, shopping basket broken, horn snapped straight off and worst of all some homeless dude stole her safety vest and flag. i dont think she has the option of turtle or rabbit anymore. could some one help out and post some details of a quality workshop please

thanks Adam

    • I came here to note that is a zener diode too base on the info there. Based on that, I'd also be suspicious that replacing it, and it's likely to do the same. A lot of use cases will see it used as either voltage protection, or to create a cheap but relatively stable fixed voltage supply. That would mean it has seen more voltage than it should, and has gone into voltage melt down. If there is something else in the circuit dumping out higher than it should voltages, that needs to be found too. It's quite likely they're trying to use the Zener to limit the voltage that is hitting through to the transistor beside it, so what ever goes to the zener is likely a signal, and they're using the transistor in that circuit to amplify it. Especially as it seems they've also got a capacitor across the zener. Looks like there is meant to be something "noisy" to that zener, and what ever it was, had a melt down. Looking at that picture, it also looks like there's some solder joints that really need redoing, and it might be worth having the whole board properly inspected.  Unfortunately, without being able to stick a multimeter on it, and start tracing it all out, I'm pretty much at a loss now to help. I don't even believe I have a climate control board from an R33 around here to pull apart and see if any of the circuit appears similar to give some ideas.
    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
    • You don't have an R34 service manual for the body do you? Have found plenty for the engine and drivetrain but nothing else
