Kaz200
No mounting on the pillar in VIC.. from memory it's because of potential head impact/trauma in an accident. Or maybe it was because it can block field of vision, can't remember which Anyway if a cop spots it you're likely to get pulled over. We put gauges in a triple gauge holder/plate from onautos.com.au and put it in the DIN panel in the R32. Don't know if they still sell them though. You can also buy cups.. but it's a really stupid law.. something like.. Nothing can be mounted any higher than 30cm from the BOTTOM of the dash (according to TMU). So I shoved mine in the right side corner and it's below the top line of the dash either way. Haven't been hassled for it (dbl sided tape is good) Actually you can kinda just see in my avatar.. the line of the dash starts to go up over the speedo cluster etc. Hope that makes sense, gotta run out Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/171998-mounting-boost-gauge/#findComment-3168592 Share on other sites

I have A-pillar gauges at the moment (two of them) and have been wondering if I need to remove them or not. So they are illegal in Vic? adam-__-
Yeah, gauges in the A-pillar would be illegal and it's something to do with being in an accident and your head hitting it. I think the law was that, nothing can be installed higher than the highest point of your steering wheel. Let's say you put your steering wheel to its maximum height, the top of your steering wheel is your limit. Again, this is just what I've heard so.... They are all clearly listed my friend http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/RulesS...rdsInformation/ Read each of the relevant ones to the mods your talking about. In this cause pillar gauges come under VSI: No. 8 & No. 26 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/171998-mounting-boost-gauge/#findComment-3170619 Share on other sites

I didn't think I'd need to read the Vic Roads website after I bought my car from Japan but clearly I should have. I will take a look at the Vic Roads website and I'm looking at buying from http://www.mearcat.com.au/ Regards, Gareth Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/171998-mounting-boost-gauge/#findComment-3170823 Share on other sites

some_cs_student
After R31Nismoid's hint I finally found the information on page 8, VSI26.pdf from Vic Roads (thanks R31Nismoid). To repeat the Vic Roads guide: "Apart from any pillar or other part of the vehicles structure or fittings, there must be no internal obstructions to a drivers view through the swept area of the windscreen, to the right of the driver's position or 60degrees to the left of the drivers position, except for the area outside the primary vision area." Ok, so its plain illegal under "Repairs and obstructions to view" in the Vic Roads rules. Anyway, I'm looking at buying some gauge pods now to make the car more legal Regards, Gareth Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/171998-mounting-boost-gauge/#findComment-3170990 Share on other sites
