Hey guys/ladies,

I recently purchased a '96 silver 33 GTS-t (picked it up wednesday). But I've got a question about the dash that's in it. It's one of those Nismo ones (the one's with the 240km/h speedo, GPS screen and NISMO Rpm). The thing is that the sat 'n nav doesn't work properly (It's located in Japan at the moment, and im apparently in the sea when im driving :P) and yeah when I picked the car up the guy who installed my alarm was talking to me about it, but the other guy was talking at the same time and I couldnt really hear what he was saying (either that or I was hyped up about getting in the car)and I was just wondering if anyone knew much about these screens, or knows of someone who would know what their doing  ?. The screen also flickers sometimes but thats probably a capacitor or something like that.

I had the choice of putting an original dash back in it with only 8000km on it or put the original NISMO dash back in it, I think I did the right thing anyway by putting it back in because of it's rarity?

So yeah good to be a skyline owner, and I'll see you on the road :D

PS. Still getting used to the turbo haha

i hav ea sat nav in ma 34 as well and i asked around everywhere if n e one could convert it back into english so i can use it on aussie roads

however guy said that because the cars "memory" is made for japan it's hard to convert it so basically the map will just keep readin the things in japanese. guy did reccomend me however in keepin the screen just change the deck that it originally came from n just put an asutralian made sat nav in the current place of the jap one or he can somehow do some wirin n change the sat nav into a tv screen n watchin ur usual channels like 7, 9 ,10 n stuff like that

Thanks. Ill see what [micheal] has to say. heh tv screen in the middle of your dash, somehow I dont think that would be smart lol :P . I suppose I'll just have to do my research and ring up a few people and see what they have to say, I wouldn't mind getting it to work.

hi Daniel

you did the right thing in putting the nismo dash in they are super rare and cost upwards of $1000 if you can find one second hand.

Did the dash come with a remote and like alittle receiver, that you put on the dash somewhere? Because there are a few options with the dash, There are 2 main mode, one is just normal and the other is pit mode.

the normal mode, has the option to display speed, rpm, power, torque, fuel eco, g force and all of the above at the same time.

Pit mode, has all fancy stuff like trip, lap tracer, graph etc etc (i have alook in the book 2morrow and list all the options because cant remember off the top of my head).

If you have PIT MODE on, everytime the car stop the screen will switch from the noraml display (speed etc) to whatever pit mode you have selected.

Now with the sat nav, i think you may have some issue converting it to work in australia, your best bet is to contact a audio shop in perth and ask if it can be done, but im pretty sure you cant change it over as people who have bought the newer skyline (v35) which come std with sat nav have been unable to get them to work in australia so far.

Ohh and the nismo dash comes with an epson EJ1 ecu which is link into your stock ecu, so if u find a box under ur passenger side seat that will be it (it say epson ej1 one it) also if ur missing the remote, i can always come around a change the options for you if you like.

If you need anymore help with the dash let me know, i have the book for the epson system but its all in jap, i also have all the wiring digram etc so if you want to take it out etc

Cheers Michael

Thanks for that info Mike, I haven't really fully looked over the whole car yet. I know there are a few books in the glove box and one thick remote, but I just haven't had the time to look over the books yet. Ill print out what you've wrote and have a look for all the things that should be there and if I have any problems ill give you a pm or something if that's ok.

Yeah Eric I finally got it heh pretty awesome still kind of getting used to the power, they definately like to slip in the wet without even giving them anything :( 100% of the time its been an accident so far lol, even though i got LSD :) I think Bruce is coming around today to have a look at my other car so im spending the day fixing the stereo lol.

Where can you buy these dashes? And they are a direct fit for the R33 GTS-t Skyline?

The simple answer is that if you really want one you look every where for one and if one pops up you pay what ever there asking as you may never see another one for years, i have seen 2 for sale in the last few years and i bought one of them.

    • My thinking is that if the O2 sensor is shot then your entire above described experience is pure placebo.
    • Here is the mess that I made. That filler there was successful in filling dents in that area. But in the middle area. I can feel dents. And I've gone ocer it multiple times with filler. And the filler is no longer there because i accidently sanded it away. I've chased my tail on this job but this is something else lol. So I'm gonna attempt filler one more time and if it doesn't work I'll just high fill primer the door and see where the issues are because guidecoat is of no use atm.
    • Ok, so I think I sort of figured out where I went wrong. So I definitely overthinked it, and I over sanded, which is probably a large part of the problem. to fix it, I ended up tapping some spots that were likely to be high, made them low, filled them in, and I tackled small sections at a time, and it feels a lot better.    I think what confused me as well is you have the bare metal, and some spots darker and some are lighter, and when I run my finger across it, it' would feel like it's a low spot, but I think it's just a transition in different texture from metal to body filler.    When your finger's sliding on the body filler, and crosses over to the bare metal, going back and forth, it feels like it's a low spot. So I kept putting filler there and sanding, but I think it was just a transition in texture, nothing to do with the low or high spot. But the panel's feels a lot better, and I'm just going to end up priming it, and then I'll block it after with guide coat.   Ended up wasting just about all of my filler on this damn door lol
    • -10 is plenty for running to an oil cooler. When you look at oil feeds, like power steering feeds, they're much smaller, and then just a larger hose size to move volume in less pressure. No need for -12. Even on the race cars, like Duncans, and endurance cars, most of them are all running -10 and everything works perfectly fine, temps are under control, and there's no restrictions.
    • Update: O2 sensor in my downpipe turned out to be faulty when I plugged in to the Haltech software. Was getting a "open circuit" warning. Tons of carbon buildup on it, probably from when I was running rich for a while before getting it corrected. Replaced with new unit and test drove again. The shuffle still happens, albeit far less now. I am not able to replicate it as reliably and it no longer happens at the same RPM levels as before. The only time I was able to hear it was in 5th going uphill and another time in 5th where there was no noticeable incline but applying more throttle first sped it up and then cleared it. Then once in 4th when I slightly lifted the throttle going over a bump but cleared right after. My understanding is that with the O2 sensor out, the ECU relies entirely on the MAP tune and isn't able to make its small adjustments based on the sensors reading. All in all, a big improvement, though not the silver bullet. Will try validating the actuators are set up correctly, and potentially setting up shop time to tune the boost controller on closed loop rather than the open loop it is set to now. Think if it's set up on closed loop to take the O2 reading, that should deal with these last bits. Will try to update again as I go.
