Kris. I was in a similiar position (but im heading over to the dark side... more on that later) but shop around and hassle as many people as you can. Ask as many questions as you like and drive as many cars as you can. Most of the places i went to, were very funny about insurance and wouldnt even let me look at the car, without looking over my shoulder constantly. Getting a test drive also proved difficult (at some of the dodgier places)

Remember you get what you pay for. I looked at some for around 16K and they were in really awful condition.

Places i found that had good cars were Autoworx, C Red and Extreme Machines. There are other places that sell good cars, however if i was buying a skyline (and i almost put a deposit down on one) i would visit these guys again...

Various people told me negatives and positives about all three, however i only found them to be more than helpful. They also had the more expensive cars i came across BUT they were in far better condition.

Cheers

Like i said, i looked around for a line and came across a couple i really like.... Glad i didnt buy one. I love them, but they are so impractical for me. Looked around for a Chaser too, but i want a newish car!

The thing that changed my mind was a ride in a good mates club spec 4!!!! u may know the car....... The other one i went in (similiar) was almost as quick.

So yeh in the market for a rex (has to be silver) and im in no hurry, because i soon as i get it, everything has to go in (new box, turbo, ecu etc.........) When the right car comes along (and i know the one i want!) i'll jump right in.

You had a skyline didnt you. How do you find they compare (i've driven both and i like em both)

wtf are you buyin a rex for then? the space in the back of a skyline coupe is about 2 times better than a wrx coupe!

lol @ new box. at least you're realistic about something.

I've driven modded versions of both and i really like them.

The back seats are easier in a rex than a skyline, with the extra two doors etc. I've sat in them and the rexes definitely have a bit more room. Havent seen the boot for a skyline, so i dont know how big it is etc.

Unfortunately both are getting pretty common, so it has to be different.

Although $$, a better box has to come straight away.... You have to be realistic!!

Hey kym,

The km's seem a little low for a 1993 i mean 54,000 seems a little dodgy, i still will check this car out

thanks

    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
    • Neg, the top one is actually for the front. The sizes are 18x10.5 +18 and 18x11 +32.   I measured many times but I'm sure I'll have problems as this is the thread for problems.
