Currently I have some 2way 6" front and rear with 12" sub.

The rear left doesnt seem to work (I think it's due to a wiring problem somewhere)

Anyways was contemplating removing the rear speakers or not even connecting them.

What's everyone else think?

Also think I might change the fronts to splits, the Jaycar ones coz I hardly get any treble facing towards me. Thoughts?

Currently using Jaycar 4x100W AMP, a SONY Sub w/ box (which I got for $50 ~2yrs ago from a dude who used it only at his house)

Good idea.

Rears don't really do much apart from providing 'fill' for passengers in the back seat.

If you're looking for a fairly low-budget upgrade for the front, the Jaycar Precision Response splits are v.good value for money @ $149 RRP (link).

If you are looking for product suggestions though Victor, use the 'what to buy' thread above. Cheers! :D

I would rather go a sub in boot + amped splits up front over 6x9s in the car. Some ppl will want 6x9s. Personal preference really.

In my old GTST, the rears were ripped out at compliance. Fronts were amped. In my GTR, the rears are in, run off the deck and the fronts amped. Honestly I can't notice the difference having the rear speakers in. Then again, I don't have any back seat passengers in the car.

Unplug your rear speakers, and drive around for a week. See if there's a noticeable difference. I reckon there won't be much.

there would be a big difference. i guess how notable this is depends on what speakers you have. ive got 6" 'something' speakers upfront and 6x9 infinitys in rear with 12" pheonix gold sub. fronts and 6x9's running off my pioneer 6850 deck which you can adjust almost everything i guess! just do this instead (it'll be easier) on your headunit, not sure if it was fade or balance, but turn the thing all the way to FRONT ONLY. is there a sound difference? now turn it back to zero or watever it was on before. you should notice a difference, but HOW different all depends on the quality of speakers.

Yo Vic,

I dont mind my rear speakers, ive got 6x9s in there just coz i got them for free as you know... i find that even though your ears face forward and what not, the rear speakers kinda "Fill" the car with sound.....

Next time im over have a listen, i think anything in the back is better than nothing, just to create some noise from that general direction...

i reckon, get some component speakers for the front, 2-way won't really cut it :S

get rid of the rears, put the 2 channels of the amp into the fronts, then bridge the other channel into the sub :P put grilles over the speaker holes left by the gap of the rear speakers and let the bass from the sub flow through :)

    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
