As the topic suggests...

I know theres some procedure they use to measure the noise level

90dB at 1meter back @ 45degree angle to the exhaust @ X-RPM

or SOMETHING along those lines, does anyone know?

just got a dB measure at home at registered 84dB on idle, but im aware they dont measure the noise at idle

thanx in advanced

just do what i did and bolt on the stock exhaust for the test, it can be done in about 20 mins

thats what im worried about now!!

i had a pretty sedate twin pipe (3" in 2x2"out) and it was pretty quiet, but eventually i opted for a bigger muffler

now iv put the old custom twin pipe back on and if inasnt is saying he got 83dB on a STOCK muffler (which is only 7dB away from limi), i think im screwed!

got a dB tester here, but i cant exactly rev the car and measure the back of it at the same time

have to wait till later tonight

well see tonight after the preliminary tests :S

its not looking good, had to take a fair amount of sh|t off the car already

only leaves me tomorrow (possibly wednesday before the 11am test) to get it done

this couldnt have come at a worse time (exam period)

There is a list on the EPA site of approved testers -> http://www.epa.vic.gov.au/noise/testers.asp

Any1 know how much these places charge for the basic test?

Apparently there is www.techrentals.com.au where you can hire all that engineering geeky stuff like noise meters as well.

Yes, its screwed how you *have* to turn up at the appointed time or else you get fined $1000 - i gotta take a few hours of work just so i can pass and stick everything back on :D I mean its such a pointless system for tuned imports, parts go off, pass test, parts go back on again.

    • Yeah I also looked at Plazmaman, but, it ended up alot  cheaper getting black ones through EFI when you also added in the delivery cost
    • Nice shot! They look super clean. The roof rack delete on the black one is interesting. Would like to see more pictures from different angles. It's subtle but could make quite a difference to how the car looks in profile.
