4drftn
iever since i have owned my car i have always had this hose off the turbo... i think it may have been hooked up to the actulator, anyways.... would it be best to block this off? if so what is the best way?... or should i leave it how it is? cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/179450-what-should-i-do-with-this-hose/ Share on other sites
blind_elk
If you don't have a connection onto the wastegate actuator, then you are lucky you still have an engine! But I think that hose is connected directly to the compressor housing, so it will be venting boost straight out to atmosphere. 4drftn
is that bad? should i block this off? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/179450-what-should-i-do-with-this-hose/#findComment-3269989 Share on other sites
4drftn
should it be connected to something??? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/179450-what-should-i-do-with-this-hose/#findComment-3270104 Share on other sites
4drftn
will it cause any long time effects? or damage? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/179450-what-should-i-do-with-this-hose/#findComment-3270645 Share on other sites
blind_elk
Without a connection to the actuator, the wastegate never gets a signal to open. So the turbo just keeps building boost, until the engine spits 6 pistons out through the bonnet of the car. With that hose venting boost to atmosphere, the wastegate doesn't get the full boost signal (it's acting like a bleed valve), so you risk getting same result as above. In the worst case, that hose should be plugged (a small bolt is sufficient). In the best case, it probably should be connected to the wastegate (or boost controller). 4drftn
oh ok, i think i will block it off... has anyone ellse had this drama? i just wanna do it right... sounds like it can be rather expensive... 4drftn
iv blocked it off with a bolt, just before i did i started the car to see if any air came out or anything... nothing so i gave it a few short revs and could feel air coming out... i take it its still the right thing to block it off yeah?? skybarge
have you got an external wastegate? if so, block it off, it not, plug that pipe back into the inlet or plenum, there should be another line for it :S The guy above is right, you could overboost without it connected :S And not in the cool way like in the movies The line basically builds up pressure and a certain PSI, if it's R32 - round 9-12psi it opens the wastegate up so your engine doesn't recieve too much boost :S Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/179450-what-should-i-do-with-this-hose/#findComment-3291203 Share on other sites
4drftn
its an r33, well i have the boost controller hooked up to the actuator which would stop it from over boost... wouldnt it??? skybarge
Is the boost controller tee'd into the actuator and the return line to the inlet somewhere? if so yeah, should be fine just block that other line off, you'll be losing power from it otherwise Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/179450-what-should-i-do-with-this-hose/#findComment-3293135 Share on other sites
