Hi, it is a slow process but it looks like it going to cost me about $12,000+ for this motor rebuild + extras.

I had a look at the no.1 piston when they got the motor apart and had cracked ring landing. Scored the bore, hopefully machinable to 20 thou, cause from old motor, or maybe over boosting it without tuning. (My bad). Either way it was needing a rebuild in time to come.

I found I had a nismo single spring button clutch in the car, so just going to reco that. - $800+

The type of pistons that I'm going to use are called Arie's/Aeries something like that. (Forged Pistons)

The turbos I'm going to use are called 2830 -5 twins I think. Can anyone tell me anything about them?

And the P.F.C I was thinking about using is called WOLF. Does anyone know of these computers?

Thankyou

WHITEBEAST

Hi,

I had a rebuild on my R32 at Racepace, where are getting it rebuilt? I also used Arias Forged pistons. Arias are a very well respected brand, but more important is your rebuilder is experienced with the piston and not have too much clearance. Ben knows exactly how much is too much and used the tightest setting and I had absolutely no rattle on start up and near zero engine roughness.

I dont know what the 2830's are (are they HKS?) but I know a popular turbo is the HKS GT2530's. I opted for the HKS GT-SS which are slightly smaller, but are a little more responsive. Had 90% peak power buy 4000rpm till redline so it made driving it very easy. Dyno gave 313rwkw, with GT2530 prob would have been around 330+rwkw.

As for ECU, I PFC refers to the A'Pexi Power FC. Its an excellent option cos its plug and tune, whereas other standalones may need new sensors and rarely have a base map so install costs are much more. I was thrilled with mine but it doesnt matter what you use, its who tunes it that matters.

All I can say is you're going through an expensive exercise so dont skimp on costs, get the best parts and builder you can afford. Better to pay more once than pay less twice. I spent about $20k all up (which is on the expensive side) but I never had a problem and the car drove beautifully. Even my friend mentioned it drove smoother than his stock rex.

    • Yes, overthinking. Many PS reserviors are completely opaque. Our Skyline ones, for example. Have to remove lid, peak inside, swirl the dipstick, try to remember how to read it, etc etc. Normal. Radiator overflows are often sufficiently opaque and scunged up that you can't see the true level inside anyway, and have to open and have a peak. Besides which, I replaced the (massively expensive, even back then) plastic overflow in my Alfa GTV, back in the '90s with a stainless one that I had a good fabricator make up to be dimensionally same-same, that looks remarkably similar to the Bogan's Moroso one above, and I never suffered any particular paranoia that I didn't know how much coolant was in it.
    • Looks great, but I'm always concerned that it makes it difficult to see what level the fluids are at. Am I overthinking this?
    • Looks fancy But after having a look, prior to its installation, I noticed that the yellow looking power steering reservoir would look crap next to this So I have this incoming..... Much cheaper than the Moroso and has great reviews (yeap, it's a Moroso knock off)
    • Can we place bets? My money is on there is always the option to use the 1 way profile. So the diff is either 2 way and 1 way, or 1.5 way or 1 way.
    • I also used Knox driveshafts when I the slip yoke T56 to the 3bolted TR6060 type. I believe I was one of his first jobs as it literally changed hands when I was there, started by the old owner and finished by the new. Everyone seemed pretty great about it. So wasn't shy/seemed pretty knowledgeable when dealing with weird custom people like me.
