Hey guys,

Since i picked up my Skyline a week ago I have noticed a strange noise through a certain rev range. About 1800 - 2500 rpm. It generally happens only in 2nd and 4th gears.

The noise sounds a bit like a bearing noise, i first thought it might be a leak in the intake or something but it doesnt manifest itself in 3rd gear at all. It sounds like a hissing unlubed bearing type noise. Hardish to describe.

Once it hits boost the noise kind of vanishes with speed increase.

I was searching for something on the forums and the thread at this link might relate.

Would bearings in different gears make different noises? Should i take it back to the dealer and get them to replace the bearings?

Car is a 1993 5 speed manual Skyline R33 GTS25t.

Thanks!

have u found the solution to it yet?

Cant hear it anymore. Induction noise too loud or its gone away... I plan on putting the airbox back on soonish so i will let you know if the noise is still there.

sewid try to listen to this noise when the car is stoped and the engine going .if its aslight wound type of noise then push the clutch in and after 60 or so seconds see if the noise goes if it does then its the g/box bearings for sure if it gets worse with the clutch pedal pressed in then its the thrust bearing in wich case it shouldnt do it while driving .

    • Z32 AFMs are 80mm tubes. RB26 AFMs are smaller. Just measure. Nismo RB26 AFMs have a different part number to original 26 ones. Probably also have a Nismo badge - but I don't know because I've never been near one. It's unlikely that they've been changed anyway.
    • Hey looking for pointers or experiences with indicator wiring/ common faults for the blinkers on the r31, I have a 87 silhouette and am having dramas with the blinkers staying on (not flashing) to indicate right, while trying to indicate this way the relay makes a constant noise, The front passenger side fender blinker is missing the harness connector to the bulb so is not connected would this effect the opposite side? Both rears work as they should, and blinker that stays on functions normally when on hazards instead of indicating, have replaced all bulbs, fuses and relay Cheers
    • I’ll check the AFM’s and confirm. I’ve seen on another forum post years ago it’s identified with an orange sticker and larger diameter. Unsure if I can check the diameter without removing the air filter. Is there a way to identify if the AFM is stock? I’ve done a quick search and it looks like it might be a green sticker instead?   Will try check that turbo core tag. Looks like a very tight fit in there. Do you know what number would show if it was a stock T25 turbo?
    • The car and the 33GT-R wheels look great. I can't remember if spacers were needed for these but the offset looks perfect for the GTS25t.
    • And the lack of ubiquitous availability. If it was less likely that I'd run out of fuel while trying to cross the crime zone, I'd probably be all over it.
