Hey guys :)

Ive just bought a set of HID's for my supra, and have no idea how to install them :)

Here's a pic of the kit and a pic of the clips/plugs supplied

If anyone can help me with the basic wiring id really appreciate it - cause stock supra lights are quite shitty. If this set are ok ill get another set for my GTR

Cheers

Oh btw, yes it came with a wiring diagram - but that was translates from chinese or something to english and makes zero sense

Um you probably won't be able to see at night with them installed either if it's a plug and play kit in a halogen housing?

Sorry to say dude, but you'll be blinding almost everyone on the road :)

Also if someone hits you you won't get any insurance because you'll have illegal lights :S

hmmm

Solution to the problem, get the GTR running from the other thread :)

Or get one fo the newer supra HID projectors off Ebay and retrofit it :sorcerer:

Damn i should've done all this in one post

Here's me testing some in the stock housing with projector style round headlights:

12000k purple - so not bright, best is 4300 or so, but that'll be a lot brighter than these

These are what it looks like to oncoming drivers, after I'd angled them downwards to stop it:

I reckon sell them on another forum, maybe NS.com to someone that doesn't know about HID kits :)

It should go from the original power cable to the ballast which then goes into the new hid globes.

I agree with skybarge though, I've got a hid kit installed myself and it's an improvement, but it's also blinding on coming traffic. If I were to upgrade my lights again, I would go retrofit for sure.

did it come with another wiring harness as well?

usually the kits come with a plug from ballast to harness, comes with two plugs black and red

plug them into your low beam and ground plugs and away you blind :)

Hahaha yeah dont worry, im well and truly over the GTR.....for now

It came with everything in the pic - no additional wiring?!

How do you mean exactly? What is the first part you mean?

Bingo!

Finally, people are saying the same thing that I am. I've done a lot of research in this area guys.

I used to regularly post how bad these aftermarket kits are. People would post bad stuff about me like - you don't know what you're talking about, etc.

Return the kits. Either get yourself a set of decent bulbs, or do a retrofit. Only possible option.

damn, you're over the GTR? I've read all the posts in that section, but didn't think I should comment, because i've had a GTS-t off the road for 2.5 years and a GTS4 off the road for 6 months :P

send the GTR over here to NZ and I'll get it up and running :D

On another note, what sort of bulbs does the Supra have?

because where the harness is circled above, I had a connector plugging into that plug that turned it into H4 and H1 for my skyline

If that doesn't work then :D I'm not sure.

Sorry if that f**ks your ballast or globes up :P

Thanks for the help :pwned:

The one you have circled to go to the ballast is the size of the current globe, so thats strange?!

Its a money pit with no bottom, ive spent heaps on it and i just miss driving it, when you think its all going along well something comes along and takes more money and time from you

H3C is what ive been told, im really not good at this stuff

damn it should've come with this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HID-fuse-re...bayphotohosting

Or you could cut that big plug off the HID harness, and put two spade terminals on it, then plug those directly into the H3, just make sure you have the polarity right or you'll fry the ballasts :S

I'm not too sure N1GTR. The way my kit was installed is the same as what I put in that pic.

I think what you have there skybarge is the cables if you want to power your ballast from the battery (as in straight from the battery). Those plugs were provided with my kit, but it wasn't needed.

Sorry to be a noob..

what what exactly is a retrofit?

What does it involve on an r33?

I hate my yellow lights sometimes..

Can someone give me an insight to whats involved?

might as well do it correct first time round..(rather than buying a cheap set of hids and just making it plug n play)

Edit: you know i have seen some r33s with just plug and play hids and they arent bad at all.. (mtec was the brand) didnt blind ppl etc.. looked really nice..

Retrofit = taking the projector/HID unit of an existing car and fitting it to your old headlight housing.

This includes not only the HID system (eg the bulbs + ballast) but also the projector lens - this way you know that the HID system was meant for that particular projector lens.

It is the most costly, but gives the best results. For R33, it really is the only way as the reflectors on the R33 are way too poor (i.e not focussed enough) for HID lights.

I would like to say to anybody that wants to improve their lighting with hid, DO SOME RESEARCH! From what I have found out with my RESEARCH is that the only hid kit worth buying is anything Phillips makes and nothing bigger then 4200k. anything over that and you will have bad lighting, blinding the oncoming traffic, eye fatigue etc.

Retrofit so what you would do if your headlights are NOT designed for hids.

R32GTR projectors are not designed for hids. yet Marcus here has retrofitted Honda Euro projecters into his headlights because they are designed for hid.

Retrofitting is the term used to describe the install of lets say for example a projector from 1 cars headlight to another cars headlight assembly so you can then install hids properly.

heres 8 pages of reading goodness. Xenon Hid Lights Conversion For R32GTR

    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
