That's awesome to know there is a decent performance workshop in Tas. What kind of stuff can he do? I want a front mount. An Electronic Boost Controller and some tuning done. Can he do stuff like that?

nice. how expensive are they? worth the drive down to get things done? haven't had great success with the workshops in launnie.

from my experience his prices are very reasonable. He replaced my timing chain for about $250 less than anyone else would do it for. Daves a top bloke too.

*I don't drive an import but from what I've seen he knows his stuff :D

If you guys have heard of chris tanner, you will know that he also does top work. I can't remember where he works though. He owns the blue hilux with the high power 2jz in it. It is going to be in the november issue of zoom.

Howell Auto are good too as is autocraft but Gritthis auto. and chris tanner are the best with imports.

Chris tanner comes in to my work a bit for turbo hose etc, he seems to do alot with conversions and modifications.

Dave Griffiths does anything really, just did my cam belt and water pump, but knows a bit about imports, you should see the 600+ BHP R31 he has at his workshop, I think it's for sale.

A mate with an S13 went into Dave Griffith the other day and asked him to quote him a price to install an Apexi RSM, Turbo Timer and an alarm system and he said he didnt want to do it.

Sorry guys, forum rules state that businesses can't be be publicly badmouthed. If you want to know what happened in these incidents, please feel free to PM tas_180 for further information.

Thanks guys.

I have found Dave to be nothing but helpful...Go figure.

SAME! hes a nice guy, and he knows his stuff and doesnt mind chatting about stuff to help out, he even gave me advice on something I was going to buy from another shop and fit myself, there was nothing in it for him but he didnt mind helping me out.

He is normally only working with one other guy so he may not always have the time to chat to everyone, unlike some other businesses that have service advisors that are there just to talk. He does do alot of work and is always busy.

I've never heard anything bad about him, unlike alot of other businesses around hobart, including big Prestige workshops. thAt friends and family have had work done at.

I dont like slagging businesses off but youd be suprised at what some of the stuff ive heard of happening /go wrong at certain PROfessional AUTOmotive businesses.

also I should add that not all mechanics do electronic accessory installs. Just because he didnt want to do it doesnt mean hes work is bad, some mechanics like doing mechanical work you know.

There are places that are dedicated to electronic accessory installs, like auto electricians for example.... :headspin: Go to Autobarn/city motors, there prices are fantasic  :slap:

Some other parts of my post were also edited which included other friends experiences.

I admit that everyone has their bad days, but there is a professional way to deal with situations like these. At the end of the day if you take your car to a workshop and you are happy with their work, who cares what other people say. Its YOUR personal experiences that matter to you.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
