Hey guys, my mate is buying a Vl Turbo with Rb20det.

It has a few mods (fmic, exhaust, boost), nothing over the top, and runs a Wolf 3d ecu.

From what I've read it's a plug n play unit.

What I'd like to know is if it plugs into my harness, will it run (i know not perfect until its tuned) and is there any difference between the vl rb20 and r32 rb20?

How much do these go for 2nd hand?

VL didnt come with a rb20det did it?

When they put the rb20into it depending if they used the rb20det harnes or the original one for the rb30 the plugs might be different not sure not a holden type of guy.

But if its tuned for his, and plugs straight into yours should work pretty well, as long sa you have pretty much the same mods as your mates car.

Basically if the VL is running a RB20DET motor, which would be out of an R32 or CEFIRO most likely.

To run the RB20DET its most likely running the RB20DET loom, which would mean that the WOLF would most likely be a plug and play unit suited to RB20 loom.

I also have a WOLF plug and play which is suited to RB20/25, as the loom plugs are the same?

I have also seen LINK ECU's which plug into RB20/25/30 looms.

It would be safe to assume that it would plug into your R32, but would just require a retune.

Thanks guys, I knew they werent factory lol...

Just gotta see how much he wants.

I just bought a plug and play WOLF3d unit for RB20/25, send me a PM and I will give you some details and pricing.

Any Wolf plugin ECU can run any engine you want.Any good tuner can setup the software and if needed swap over wires etc.

I fitted an R33 GTS Wolf plugin to 13B Mazda using the nissan plug and rewiring. If its V500 then its even easyer.Ring Robbie at Wolf for help.

Thats very interesting!

Will have to keep that in mind for future references.

Thats the good thing with WOLF plug and play unit. Even though they are plug and play, they don't automatically default back to a base map when disconnected, for instance to a RB20DET map.

I think the old MICROTECH'S (MT8?), when disconnected from power for a period of time when default back to the base map. If you wanted to change that base map the unit had to go to MICROTECH to get reprogrammed!

NZ VL's had a RB20E in them.

there meant to be great to drive!

I hear some cuzzy bro nearly got his up to 90 a few years back!

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
    • Lock me in mate, although I'm not sure if I'll be heading up from Goulburn or down from Sydney, either way, return will be back to Goulburn
