What Tyres To Purchase

Hi,

I am in the process of purchasing new tyres for my 350GT. The ones on the rear are Marshall Matrag 265/35 Zr 18 93W and are really noisy - sounds like a diff or wheel bearing going but have put other wheels on and the noise goes so it is definately tyres. The 35 profile sends my speedo out by 10km/hr at 100. The front ones, Sonar Ultra Sport NSII, 235/40 R18 95H are quite good as far as noise is concerned; haven't heard of either type before! Any advice on best (quiet) tyres for the V35 and where to get them in Sydney?

Also what does the 93W and 95H mean?

Any advice on best (quiet) tyres for the V35 and where to get them in Sydney?

I'm rolling on Falken FK452s at the moment on my Z33, and I'm loving them. Relatively cheap but with good performance. Not much noise, but since I've only been driving on RT215s and R-Comps for the last 6 months I may have gone partially deaf when it comes to road noise.

Also what does the 93W and 95H mean?

The number is the load rating, which tells you how much mass the tyre supports. The letter is the speed rating, which gives you a maximum sustained high speed. By law your tyres must be rated to do a sustained speed equal to your car's top speed, regardless of whether that speed is legal or not.

I'd get that stuff right, as cops check that data when considering whether to defect your tyres as roadworthy or not.

i have the bridgestone potenza on all four,and i cant belive how noisy they are.

any spped above 30kph and i can easily notice them.

I will try to find out the factory specified tires for the v35 in japan amd the g35 in the US.Hopefully they are not so noisy...

facgtory spec for hte G35 were some type of michelin i believe..

im guessing the v35 would have been shod with a home brand-yokohama/bridgestone/toyo/BFgoodrich

its hard to find any info out on this though.

there is also the pressure sensor mounted in all four wheels which makes it more difficult to change tires and very hard to change rims and keep the sensors intact....http://www.350z-tech.com/zwiki/TPS_On_Aftermarket_Wheels

My car came from Japan with original tyres = Bridgstone Potenza RE40 (I believe the 350Z came to Australia with these tyres also). For complaiance I had Falken FK452 fitted and have been enormously impressed with the grip.

On other performance cars I have had Dunlop S3000 and S8000, Bridgestone RE50's and Falken Z326. The Falken Z326's are not up to the requirements of a perfermance car but the FK452 feel very similar to the RE50's, the best of the other tyres I have tried.

They are a bit noisy on rough course chip roads (could just be the car was not insulated for these road surfaces), but otherwise quiet.

I've had 2 sets of Falken FK452s on my R34 and absolutely love it as well. I'm getting new tyres for the V35 tommorow and have been recommended the new model Sumitomo HTR Z III which are made in Japan. Done a bit of research on the net and have found some good reviews on it so I'll give that a go and report back.

Incidently they are priced very similar to the FK452s as well so I thought I'd give the Sumis a go.

I've got Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's at the moment and without a doubt I have never driven on a better street tire. At over $900 a corner and standard equipment for the Zonda or Koeningsig (can't remember) you would expect that though :-)

The tires handle everything i can through at them. Awesome grip in the wet, almost hard to break traction in the dry and they wear very very well so far. Have used them on a track day and they looked the same when i left the track as when i went in. Oh and whisper quiet, no road noise what so ever.

As good as they are though $900 each is a bit steep so i doubt I'll be using them again once their gone.

I am using yokohama advan sport 255/35/18 for the rear (it's really grippy), and front i am using toyo TEO 235/40/18. They are pretty quite for me.

I've had my Sumitomos on for about a month now and very happy with grip, wet weather and noise levels. These are the new model HTR-ZIII. 225/45/18 & 245/45/18 cost $1100 for the set. Made in Japan too.

Hi,

I have had two 350GT Coupes, a 2003 and now a 2005.

I can recommend the Goodyear Eagle F1 GDS3.

These are quieter than the Bridgstones and Falkens and come out top in many comparisons especially in the wet.

They feel good and seem to wear quite well.

Hi all,

currently have bridgestone RE01 and they have been rather noisy but a grippy tyre.

Just purchased 4 x Kumho KU36 semi slick tyres $188 each just waiting for the call to come collect will let you know how they go

      Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.

      What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.

      Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!

      No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
