a D Class amp converts a weaker audio signal using pulse width modulation and other fancy waveform stuff... in layman's terms.. think of a normal amp as having all the components switched on all the time regardless of the frequency of the audio being amplified... a D Class amp has components that are switched on and off depending on the frequency of the audio being amplified. What this means is that its more efficient and can work with less power and generate less heat, so you can have a smaller amp that draws less power from your car, and doesn't need big or bulky heatsinks.

its a bit more complex than that, but that's a sorta dumbed down version. D Class does NOT mean Digital class.
