Ok well in easy to understand terms.

I push the power button on, the fans start up and the keyboard lights up for a second, then goes out. The mouse doesn't light up. There's no beeps like there usually is, just the noise of fans spinning.

I've unplugged the screen at the back and a message comes up saying connect back up, but the light next to the screens power button keeps flashing.

hey abe, u got msn? wanna chat about my comp :bunny:

yes, yes i do. It is in my profile.

Could be a few things.

1. GPU (Video Card)

2. Mobo

3. Ram - unlikely, but i have seen stranger things.

spend the day 'installing' krish's new turbo. bit of a head f**k.

only 3 out of 4 of the nuts for mani-turbo studs would screw on because one kept fowling on the housing, so thats off to be machined this week, and the wastegate design sucks. flap opens about 5mm before it fouls, so ive taken it to andrew and it looks like itll be getting the internal blanked off, and an adaptor for extrernal gate made up.

anyone got any hookups for tial 44mm gates?

I was gonna sms him and ask him how you guys went, but you just summed it up for me. Lucky he has a daily...unlike me, but i am due for a bit of a holiday. My upgrades should be getting done soon, say 1-3 weeks. I am going to go through Horsepower In A Box, as it is just round the corner from my work...sort of.

it went alright. had a few moments where we were missing a few odds and ends, but it went pretty smoothly until those 2 issues popped up. wouldve been about a 4 hour turnaround. with any luck he'll have it back on the road within 2 weeks.

Split dump wasn't it? They are what suck not the wastegate.

Bellmouth FTW

i use those gauges too. pretty accurate. shall have to get a few more soon.

negatory. no split dump. kinda hard to explain, but theres another piece that bolts to the back of the turbine housing that holds the wastegate flap and has the vband for the exhaust flow on it, problem is this section is shallow for the wastegate flap to properly open.

I know what yoru talking about, it's a shit design i can't see how you can't get boost spiking with that setup.

What turbo is he using?

Hey Dale, are these the guages you use?

Yeah thats the gauges that i use, if you want a set matt can get them through his business.

its garbage. i was expecting a few things to be not quite right, but thats just shit.

its a hypergear tr28 or some such. part of it is sitting on my desk, half of it is at krish's place, the rest of it is at am performance waiting for krish to give the ok to fix it.

and on the topic of gauges, ill be speaking to you soon about a couple oil gauges.

So who's good with computers? My home comp won't load anything. You turn the harddrive on but it just looks like it not doing anything, only thing moving is the fan :( . The light on the screen just keeps flashing so it looks like it's not loading the hard drive arr help plz

i have tomorrow off if you want to bring it over, I'll sort it out

on other news, go rear ended today on the way home from writeoffs place

chick decided to step on the gas when the lights went green - i think she assumed i was going to gun it ;P looks like minor damage only (paint and one of the plastic clear reverse light covers) but won't know for sure till my mechanic gets a decent look at it - went straight to holden hill to report it - cop there was cool as, told me about his xr6 turbo and came out to scope the car - said I had nothing to worry about as far as defects was concerned, which is great news (considering thats my aim) and also said that I'd got a nice example and was good to see someone taking care of their ride >:) *thumbs up to holden hill branch*

Abe I'm 99% sure it's the video card. It stuffed up about a yr ago, replaced with a second hand one where the fan wasn't working properly for it.

Any idea where to get a basic video card from? Don't use the comp for games etc so just need a basic one.

Cheers.

No worries let me know when your ready

^ That sucks balls Ben. Hope she's insured....?

not sure - it wasnt her car - she said she doesnt know if the car in insured but would pay me cash for the repairs - i got the cop to check her details up and it all comes up as legit so I don't think I'll have to worry about dodgyness

6 weeks before the show too. none to pleased

    • There's plenty of OEM steering arms that are bolted on. Not in the same fashion/orientation as that one, to be sure, but still. Examples of what I'm thinking of would use holes like the ones that have the downward facing studs on the GTR uprights (down the bottom end, under the driveshaft opening, near the lower balljoint) and bolt a steering arm on using only 2 bolts that would be somewhat similarly in shear as these you're complainig about. I reckon old Holdens did that, and I've never seen a broken one of those.
    • Let's be honest, most of the people designing parts like the above, aren't engineers. Sometimes they come from disciplines that gives them more qualitative feel for design than quantitive, however, plenty of them have just picked up a license to Fusion and started making things. And that's the honest part about the majority of these guys making parts like that, they don't have huge R&D teams and heaps of time or experience working out the numbers on it. Shit, most smaller teams that do have real engineers still roll with "yeah, it should be okay, and does the job, let's make them and just see"...   The smaller guys like KiwiCNC, aren't the likes of Bosch etc with proper engineering procedures, and oversights, and sign off. As such, it's why they can produce a product to market a lot quicker, but it always comes back to, question it all.   I'm still not a fan of that bolt on piece. Why not just machine it all in one go? With the right design it's possible. The only reason I can see is if they want different heights/length for the tie rod to bolt to. And if they have the cncs themselves, they can easily offer that exact feature, and just machine it all in one go.
    • The roof is wrapped
    • This is how I last did this when I had a master cylinder fail and introduce air. Bleed before first stage, go oh shit through first stage, bleed at end of first stage, go oh shit through second stage, bleed at end of second stage, go oh shit through third stage, bleed at end of third stage, go oh shit through fourth stage, bleed at lunch, go oh shit through fifth stage, bleed at end of fifth stage, go oh shit through sixth stage....you get the idea. It did come good in the end. My Topdon scan tool can bleed the HY51 and V37, but it doesn't have a consult connector and I don't have an R34 to check that on. I think finding a tool in an Australian workshop other than Nissan that can bleed an R34 will be like rocking horse poo. No way will a generic ODB tool do it.
    • Hmm. Perhaps not the same engineers. The OE Nissan engineers did not forsee a future with spacers pushing the tie rod force application further away from the steering arm and creating that torque. The failures are happening since the advent of those things, and some 30 years after they designed the uprights. So latent casting deficiencies, 30+ yrs of wear and tear, + unexpected usage could quite easily = unforeseen failure. Meanwhile, the engineers who are designing the billet CNC or fabricated uprights are also designing, for the same parts makers, the correction tie rod ends. And they are designing and building these with motorsport (or, at the very least, the meth addled antics of drifters) in mind. So I would hope (in fact, I would expect) that their design work included the offset of that steering force. Doesn't mean that it is not totally valid to ask the question of them, before committing $$.
