mmm after joining SAU when I was like 15 and being into skylines before that.. I was really looking forward to getting a turbo 32 or 31 when I was 16-17.. Well all that changed in a hurry with those no-turbo laws coming in a month or so before I got my reds... :P

I went for the non-turbo line and it was great for the 2 years or so that I had it. But, now with the cash from that after selling it a few days ago.. I don't know how much longer I can hold out lol.. If I do decide to take the plunge into a turb car I def wouldn't be getting another line as imo it attracts far too much attention. Even though I didn't once get pulled over on my greens even driving around at 2am through the rocks, cronulla, city, bondi etc never.. Obviously I wouldn't be doing anything stupid like that with a turbo car but meh.. Given that my area is pretty relaxed with cops It just tempts me even more.. I mean I see all the rich kids from vauclause etc driving around their mum and dad's turbo audi's, saabs, mercs, v8 jeeps and they never get hassled, largely because cops probably have no idea or could care less about those sorts of cars I suppose too..

Another 1 and a bit years to go till I can legally drive one.. I recon If I hold out any longer I'm just going to get fed up and call it quits on imports lol

Hi. I just bought a R33 GTS-T but I got my green P Plates after the ban. So my options are:

a) Take out the turbo.

b) Leave the turbo in there and drive it around until I get a fine.

What should I do? Is it worth paying the fine? And what are the penalties.

Thanks

so did jinzo here get his red p's before or after the law came in? if so wouldnt that mean he is eligible to drive turboness?

yea thats true as a pod is a performance modification. if u lose ur license coz of that then dat cop is a f*khead...

i got pulled over last week in my r34 gt-t last week for speeding. as i am not allowed to drive my car, i decided i had everything to lose anyways, so i decided to be a smartass to the cop. he looked at my license and then gave me with a warning for speeding and also not displaying my p plates. so lucky there.... :P

Not really a smart thing to do nor is it posting that on a club forum.

nick like i told you, get an audi, cops dont look twice when your hammering past them!

A guy I know got pulled over in a turbo civic (he is on his reds and affected by the prohibited vehicle condition) and got a defect for a blow off valve and where his boost gauge was mounted (on the a-pillar) and the cop said have a nice night.

He's got a front mount (hidden by mesh), bov (now moved to under the front bumper so you can't see it), turbo timer, boost gauge etc and thats the only time he's been pulled over.

He's done well to hide things, but either way, he got off lucky with the defects, and he said the cop had his licence and was looking over it.. and it blatantly says CONDITIONS: Y

With the amount of times I've been pulled over for doing nothing wrong, I wouldn't risk it in a turboed car; but then again, if you leave it stock, don't put chromiez, a big spoiler and custom plates on it you should be alright.

So if I take out the turbo, and the cops pull me over, do I still get a fine even though I'm driving a R33 without a turbo?

yes because its still registered as a turbo car + plus its not as easy as just "Taking out the turbo" many threads have discussed its more cost effective to buy an NA in the first place

Sorry but i just dont understand why you bought a turbo car when you knew that you had restrictions on the type of car you can drive, its just plain stupid. They put these rules here for a reason! Like its been said before:

A. You can sell the car and buy something you can LEGALLY drive

B. Get raped by the cops when the pull you over. And yes they will pull you over!

just my 2c

Clearly there's only one way around this for me...

I'll buy a boat and hoon around in the water!!!

Behold!!!!!!!!

Whatchu gonna do now cops! Get wateratz on my ass mang!

welll i guesss....if u wana keep ur turb...you could take out a home loan n jack ur car up to 10000kw! so u can err...out run tha copss and maybe helicopters...oh yeah n get that gadget switch that turns ur number plates around with a flick of a switch like that taxi movie LOL

seriously enuf of this just sell the damn thing....u shouldnt have got it in the first place...take it as a financial move...you'll be saving yourself money...as the everyone has said the cops will rape you and fine your ass for raping it!

Hi. I just bought a R33 GTS-T but I got my green P Plates after the ban. So my options are:

You left out "stop being a dickhead and buy a car that I'm legally allowed to drive".

I hope that, when you crash, you don't hit anyone else with your insurance-less car.

thats pretty uncalled for, just because he made a bad decision to buy a turbo car dosent mean hes gona drive it like an insane bastard just cos hes a p plater

I wasn't saying he was going to drive like an insane bastard just because he's a P plater.

I was saying he was going to drive like an insane bastard because he clearly doesn't care about obeying the requirements that come with holding a license. He doesn't give a f**k about buying a car he's legally allowed to drive, why will he give a f**k about dangerous driving, speeding, or any other safety-related things?

Driving around on a car that you've got no insurance on is uncalled for. Being young and only buying a 2WD Skyline, chances are he's not going to be loaded enough to replace someone else's car or pay their medical bills out of pocket when he crashes.

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
