rob @ rank rotary.. i have an lt12.. was hard to find a good tuner..but these guys are decent!!... i was stoked with the work they did for me... little pricey though

How much did they charge you for an install & tune?

price is irrellevant if the result is good..... i would much rather pay a bit more for something im happy with than pay nothing a nd get a shit job... which is more often the case.

I agree totaly, I have rang up a few guys and they say that it would cost $500 & then they go on to tell me that the microtech isn't that great of computer & compared to other ecu's such as wolf or ems (which they are authorised dealers in) he wouldn't be able to acheive the same result which in my mind is crap because that just points out his inexperience they have with the Microtech.

^^ its kinda true though the LT-12 is pretty basic and the cpu is extremely slow.... BUT thats not to say its crap, its just a cheap ecu that does the job.

Reviving one of my old threads here, is there an example of how you can back up this statement? Not having a dig, just curious to actually know what the issues are, and given the right tuner could they not bring out the best in the Microtech??

I would have to agree, they are a crap computer... but the newer models seem to be doing a pretty damn good job for many cars ive seen them installed on.

Tuning one is as easy as tuning a 1990's TV

Yeah ive seen Rank Rotary pump out a few cars over the years with Microtechs (and not rotors). owners have been happy

(350rwkw applications)

ECU's are limited by thier features Michael, and i think that the LT12 doesnt have "all" the features other newer ECU's have.

But as you said, long as the tuner is good and knows the ECU the result should be good either way, it might not be "the best of the best" because you dont have some feature, but if your not chasing every 1rwkw then really it probably doesnt matter if thats all your budget gives you.

The kilowatt figure doesn't phase me that much, yes I love to have decent power but I'm more interested in gaining the best drivabilty for the car.. The torque curve is what I'm more interested in as I just want the car to be a lot more puchier and responsive with maximum torque over the whole rev range. The type of driving I do is mostly on the street & I always love a blast around the twisties in the mountains.

    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG is has not responded to my emails so far after purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
