Hey guys,

as the title says my '95 r33 has rust...... alot of it. i was told that it is from salt that was put on the roads in japan.

could this be true?

it's mainly in the rear guards, door sills and in the front strut towers.

it's currently in getting it all cut out and fixed, panelbeater told me that it's atleast a couple of grand worth.

havent got any pics.

has anyone else seen a skyline with a fair bit of rust in it?

Damn, that has got to suck.

You should've checked the car better before you bought it. But you learn I guess.

Just make sure there isnt any other hidden rust, and you should be thankful that its still repairable.

i knew the car had rust but i got it cheap and since i had a sr20det powered sss pulsar to drive around in i thought i may aswell make a project out of it.

now i've sold my sss and it's time to get the 33 on the road.

if it all goes well then i should be able to make profit if i sell it. at least 4 grand or so.

the worst part is that i drove 8 hrs down to sydney only to find out that it had taken a hit to the front drivers side somewhere and that the seller never told me about it until. but i've had a few panelbeaters look at it and they cant workout where it happenned cos the radiator support panel is still the original and hasnt been repaired.

but it has odd headlights and the bonnet isnt sitting right.

i'm in a position where i cant just sell the car the way it is cos no-one will pay me enough for it so i can pay off my loan. so i may aswell keep it and just get it to a state where i might be able to get what i need for it which isnt too much.

dont know if its true or not, just what i was told.

no idea of how else it could have happenned. so the salt sounds logical to me.

but i've got the car now and i do regret buying it but what else can i do?

i've been told that its a waste of time trying to fix it but i'm gonna prove them wrong.

Granthem i seriously doubt that your 34 would have any rust in it since it is a later model.

just dont live near a beach.

yes in snowy areas in many parts of the world they salt the roads to melt snow. well actually these days a lot of places use some other kind of salt like chemicals. but even just driving through the snow is bad enough as the bottoms of the car stays moist for so long. so yeah underbody rust is common on cars from certain areas of japan. I've seen it affect cars as new as 3 or 4 years old. so 32/33/34 doesn't matter they can all be victims of bad rust.

might be a good idea for ya to start looking for a new shell?, imo that would be the best option :P , check the auctions for damaged ones etc, i actually have a spare shell in my back yard thats a repairable write off (using it for parts for my cefiro) so it might be a good idea to ask about , you never know your luck :P . oh and btw yeah its common to see rusted out cars in jap for the reason you said, its usually terminal

sorry if this is a really dumb question but is it possible if i buy a r33 non turbo that is a 5 spd and just put my RB25DET in it?

is it a straight fit or is there more to it?

just make sure that the engine bay looks the same and if it does then there should be no problems with that.....

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
