Even though you guys missed out on getting the gears, one small point to remember!

You can ONLY do the exhaust cam gear on the RB25DET due to the VVT on the inlet cam gear. It "MAY" be possible to modify or adapt the stock inlet gear or even the HKS one but it would be a bugga' to do it & not worth the cost for such a small gain ( around ~5rwkw max even on a full bolt on upgraded turbos etc... RB26DETT motor).

I gained roughly 10rwkw (so far) from doing the ext' gear (via 4' retard), I say so far as ECU issues caused problems @ dyno testing was unable to be completed :P

For anyone thinking of doing this mod I suggest waiting until you have a way of over coming the stock ECU's timing retard (the cause of the dreaded RB25DET flatspot) the adj' ext' gear only makes this problem much much worse :x you gain power but you get a very poor power curve (& the car will drive poorly).

Sorry to hijack the thread people, thought this info might help but.

Thanks for the heads up. Ethan 33 told me this just as I was going to order some from a local dealer.

Mot all 33's come out with VVT did they? The reason I ask is that my mechanic asked me what year my 33 was. He said that the late models have them but not the older ones. Weird.

No prob's mate.

My GTS25t is a late '94 model & it's has VVT.

If you look @ the black t'belt/cam gear cover front on (ie standing @ the front of the car looking into the eng' bay) one side has the alloy crank angle sensor (exhaust cam gear) the other side has a bulge (inlet gear) the bulge is to clear the VVT gear. Just back from the inlet gear on the side of the eng' is a long housing with an elec connector on it, this it the VVT solenoid. The VVT is there to improve bottom end power NOT top end!!! (So I'm lead to believe!?!?!)

I'll see if I can dig up a pic with arrows pointing to the bits in ? :P

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
