Well just got the demo about 30 mins ago and finished it already. Kinda annoying seeing as its 1.8gb just for a demo.

Still, was as good as i expected and definitely worth 99usd for the pre order.

One thing that got me was it set everything to medium gfx wise.

Most demanding game ever, i have a 3G core duo 4 g or ram and a 8800 GTS 320 and its medium! what do they want from me?

anyhoo was bored cause demo is so short.

anyone who's been living under a rock and has no idea what im talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKgpu8BpcqM

yup, put my pre-order in for the collectors edition ages ago, this is the sole reason for me building my new pc :D

in the meantime, I picked up Team Fortress 2 last week, bloody awesome game that plays on low spec pc's without a problem (i'm talking AGP 6800 Ultra grade lol).

Man i had to build a new computer for Oblivion, then I did it again recently for Bio Shock... This is taking all the fun out of the games... I Don't have a high def monitor, so it's hardly worth it!

This coming out on Xbox? :D

If you can run bio shock on high you should be able to get pretty close in crysis. A lot of the stuff in crysis is DX10 dependant (same as bio shock i belive), so until they refine the drivers to match the lower spec hardware (8800gts style) you'll need the gtx's and the like.

But I agree, the need for high end hardware hurts the hip pocket these days.

I heard it had to have a DX10 card to run.

xbox!! bah apox on those evil machines. Ill only ever have a wii a ps3 and a PC thanks very much :D

You would need a crazy rig to run in high def anyway. I manged the native of 1680x1050 ok with medium settings. Im assuming that the full version will work some of the bugs out too.

As mentioned if u can run bioshock on high then crysis should be fine.

Long live bf2 hehe.

both my room mates have pretty heavy duty rigs, both with 8800GTX Ultra's on board, they are getting reasonable performance at the native resolution (1680x1050), but the demo does have a lot of error checking and code that isn't refined. The demo was released as a beta anyway so its to be expected. I tried to run it on my old rig and it booted and played but got the yellow sprites everywhere lol.

i downloaded the demo and was pretty disapointed to be honest . dont think i will be shelling out for the full version .

will just stick to battle field 2 and sprintcars to knoxville for now.

should still work on xp, basically it will run under directx 9 but will have all the dx10 functionality turned off. I ran it on my machine with xp pro and dx9, one roommate has xp pro/dx9, the other vista/dx10.

Do you need Vista for this, as DX10 only works on Vista right ?

I'm not upgrading to Vista just to play a game though :D

i see no better reason...

As for the shiny factor I tended to go that way in the past turning down gfx in favour of speed etc. Thing is i really enjoyed farcry and it just happend to look good too. Same with Crysis me thinks. plus now i can afford to good tech not teh hand me downs i used to run.

Isnt it great they are releasing some good games these days.... portal was sweet

8800 GTX kicks ass compared to a GTS and is well worth the extra few hundred bucks. so far every game out on the market (and yes, I've got and tried them all - bioshock, world in conflict, quake wars etc.) runs perfectly smooth in 1920x1440 with high or very high settings. Still to check out Crysis as it seems absolutely stunning in regards to graphical and physical details, however I do not want a demo and will wait until a scene release. But I'm sure a fairly decent setup with a GTX will run it smoothly on high settings unless the software itself is poorly developed.

I agree to some extent, there are few variables that are going to make it interesting, some of my mates are running sli gtx's and crossfires, they are saying they can get crysis on high but not very high, says that it will play but as soon as things start to get heavy (lots of gun fights) the computer slows RIGHT down (talking below 20 FPS). But it IS a Beta Demo so the code won't be perfected and there will be a lot of error catching code in there to slow things down.

That said there is also some news doing the rounds that DX10.1 will not be compatible with the current set of GTX cards (this I find hard to belive as I can't see the current crop of 8800's changing the actual PCB design to much.

I think a lot of this is down to drivers and software, once DX10 is fully fledged I rekon it will be sweet as, most 8800 gts's (mainly 640mb versions) will be able to run crysis on high, and if all your looking for is liek a 22" resolution of 1680 by 1050 you should be sweet. Anything bigger and ur gonna want the gtx for sure though.

As they did with Far Cry, Crytek have built a game that on the highest settings will only run well on the next generation of GPUs. They did the same with Far Cry :)

It means the game lasts more than just the current "generation" of games, and it's also a challenge to video card manu's to make GFX cards to run it well.

We'll see Crysis as a benchmark game for over 12 months, nothing pushes your system like this game ;)

Graphics, well they are unreal! Much better than WIC (and WIC is really nice!!)

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.

    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
