Aston martin V8 Vantage uses DSG rearmounted gearbox, and offers a rear mounted manual gearbox too. Its not impossible and Nissan wouldn't be reinventing the wheel if they had to offer it. Think they were just rushed for a release so they didn't have time to refine it... that or they wanna push as many DSG models out of the showroom as quickly as possible before moving onto manual sales.

speculation that may hold some valid water.

Just for the record, the info i posted was from a validated source and wasnt made up.

like ive said, im going to do a little snooping around this weekend.

my question is why they didnt do it the other way around? Why not develop the manual then introduce the quicker DSG later?

thats dumb business planning really whichever way you look at it?

who is going to want to buy a GTR in manual that is slower and more expensive than the DSG?

Marketing or perhaps as funkymoney has said, quick release.

The new GTR is being marketed as a car ANYONE can drive.. ANYWHERE, ANYTIME.

who is going to want to buy a GTR in manual that is slower and more expensive than the DSG?

Regardless of how great it is, I for one was not used to seeing the auto gear lever.

Was never in a GTR and is still something Im not happy with.

This new DR6 DCT sounds great, but Im more for a manual.

Out of curiousity, how about everyone else.. If you could choose, which would you have?

im going to have to wait and see how the "auto" drives.

There was a point a couple of years ago when i got a couple of laps in a 360 F1 with the paddle shifters.

There was nothing wrong with it at all. i didnt miss a clutch pedal although in a perfect world i like to be as involved as i can.

If you can master a clutch pedal, the DSG will be a cinch.

why have you signed for one if youre not happy with one of the most important and controversial parts of the car?

why not just wait until they release a manual ( which still, they may never do ) ?

And a thought goes out to people that purchase the vehicle for racing only... Im fully aware of the shift times for the DSG set up etc... But yeah im sure there will be racers that are after a H pattern type setup. I mean im not too familuar with racing reg's etc but would some require a manual type setup?

Also i'd like to know driveline specs on the new Super GT GTR

Out of curiousity, how about everyone else.. If you could choose, which would you have?

I'd have to test both to make a decision.

Does the car have launch control just out of interest?

all you'll need to do is pick your braking point, stand on the brake pedal like ur trying to push it through the firewall, and then flick down 3 or 4 gears while the DSG control computer works out perfectly timed and executed throttle blips :D

not to mention the ability to easily get 1st gear for super-tight mountain switchbacks

that is a very good question.

I wonder if nissan is using the super gt GTR to develop things like the GB??

i wouldnt doubt it.

For those who are interested....

Here, the GTR is only available at what they call Nissan High Performance Centres. This has nothing to do with the Red or Blue Stage Dealers.

The car as you know goes on sale from Dec 6th. First deliveries are on Dec 10th, with test drives (test runs as the are called here) from the same day.

I might go for one in that week when I start my end of year vacation and update.

:P

correct.

many dealers in japan will not have the GTR in the showroom or even for a testdrive.

Lucky for me i have a hi - po center in the town where i live.

It'll be good, Ken. We will be the first ones to report on how the thing drives.

cant wait.

Many didnt know the sale date though, im sure.

I have been told the reserve for a test is quite long, but.

      I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
