Ok, ive been asking around a bit on this site since ive bought my r33 about my next choice of mods. Out of this list, what would you guys think are crucial or not needed straight away to get to my goal (200 or as close to 200 rwkw as possible)

Currently the car has - FMIC, Cat back exhaust, High pressure fuel pump

This is my list in order of desired purchase:

Apexi Power FC + Z32 AFM (ive heard the rb20det AFM does the same job?? is that true at all? or would i be better off sticking to the Z32 option?

Splitfire coils (For my power level, would it be necessary installing new ignition coils at all at this stage???)

NGK Iridium plugs

Dump pipe + hi flow cat

New fuel pump (Fuel pump was replaced just before i bought the car. Now i rang up the place to inquire into what they put on it, as on the invoice it is listed as just Hi-pres fuel pump. The guy i talk to says it was a "petroject fuel pump" now to my knowledge, petroject are suppliers of bosch and walbro pumps. Its pretty noisy in the cabin with whatever is installed atm, so at this stage until i find out what it actually is, i dont know whether i need one yet or not)

Im not looking at increasing boost, as i drive this car everyday, and would like it to run on less than or about 1.0 bar at the most.

In order what should i do here?? Anything not listed that i should include??? i was thinking maybe injectors and/or camshafts?

id get the full exhaust done first. Then some sort of cold air induction (if you havent already) that should take care of the breathing side of things Then go you power FC and you wont be able to use a R32(rb20det) AFM with it, you wiill have to get the z32 or equivilant if im not mistaken. get a decent tune obviously, run boost no higher than 12 or so..(still 12, is pushing the standard turbo) and you should see around 200.

hi mate, yes finish off your exhuast. good idea would be split dump/front pipe and a high flow cat.

Then just get improve intake with a good panel filter or a pod which is enclosed. In regards to your fuel pump, when you put ur power fc in and tune it, ull be able to tell if its leaning out so wait till then before buying a new one. you might need a z32 afm if your current one is maxing itself or you can just increase the voltage with the power fc if your not gonna go for bigger power goals down the track. Run no more than 12psi if you want your turbo to last and yeh with a good tune u should see somewhere close to 200 rwks.

Have a read of the FI Guide

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/t66556.html

This is a good starter (from the guide, there are others aswell)

afm/$$ plus/coil - 3 things you dont need, but plenty of others you do

cheers

yup i used to work at petroject and they are mainly the bosch supplier... but also do some walbro

chances are its bosch... as that whats we mainly sold

Ahk, well then i reckon i will just leave it as is atm then. Its fairly noisy in the cabin, so i was guessing it may be bosch.

Yeah im looking into a split dump/front and hi flow cat. the stuff from bos motorsports (batmobl sau user name) looks and sounds the goods.

Have a k&n panel on its way, although im not in a huge rush for it, since from many opinions anyway, they dont offer too much of a gain.

Probably gonna look into getting this power fc and afm in first, just because ive had absolutely no luck at all finding one, and the ones i do find are pretty excessively priced, although since they are getting light on the ground, theres getting less and less chance of getting one for less than 1K

Thanks a lot for the help so far guys, its good to get some other opinions on this stuff :-)

i used iridiums (but they were crap) ur better off getting the properly gapped copper plugs with the correct heat range, and i think if ur running over 10 psi most ppl get splitfires so the spark doesn't blow out.

good luck,

my car runs 203rwkw, and my mods are as follows:

Full 3 inch turbo back exhaust

Hybrid FMIC

turbotech mbc - 12psi

Power FC

Bosch 040

Apexi power intake.

So in your case you should be able to make 200rw if you add the dump / front pipes with high flow cat, power fc and more boost - 12psi or so. Stuff like plugs and coilpacks arn't totally necessary for this power level. My plugs were regapped down to .8 due to misfiring. As long as ytour car doesn't missfire you won't need splitfires. My cars runs great at this power on the standard coils.

I had Cat back 3 inch

FMIC hybrid

Walbro 255 lph fuel pump

Apexi safc

Pod filter

Electronic Boost Controller

and a retune on dyno and am pulling 208 rwkw on 10 pound only

you will get 200 plus rwkw on these mods happily

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
