^^^^ it is just Ford "style" diff etc. I'd doubt you'd find Ford or Holden making 1% of those cars

Yes you're right, they aren't truely production "Fords" or "Holdens" more like a Triple8 Falcon or a HRT Commodore as each team has a completely different way of building the cars.

I'm a massive V8 Supercar fan

i dont get your point. my grandfather was tortured for 2 years in changi and he never seemed keen to have japanese cars in the driveway?

I was at a returned servicemans club a few months ago, and I got a dirty look and a quick lecture from an elderly man when I explained to him what beer I ordered at the bar.

I bought Asahi. He was a little bit miffed that they were selling Japanese beer in a returned servicemans club. He obviously had a fairly unpleasant experience with them. Personally I dont blame them if they've been through stuff that they did!

oh and it is a Ford 9"

thats one of the only ford parts :)

oh and the headlights

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Gt...59#entry3427059

i found times for sepang which they have both competed on in the other thread on this topic

(and yes i know its not one of "our" top level v8 teams running the car)

one thing you got to remember is bathurst

and how the almighty skyline blew anything that it came up against =]

GT-R ftw !

YES!!!!

I apologise in advance for any offence, i believe that once again Ford and Holden are using V8 series as a huge marketing tool to keep their sales up. If Australia allowed the likes of Nissan, Toyota etc to race against the taxi's... The taxi's would lose year after year. Then de-regulate importation of cars so we can buy imported cars at half or a third of what we pay here.

Then hear a loud flushing noise and watch Ford and Holden go down the pooper. All the rules for racing V8's and rules for importing cars direct from say Nissan or Toyoya are in place to protect the taxi manufacturing plants. Oh how monotonous it is to watch the racing, "here comes a Ford, no he's being overtaken by a Holden , oh no here comes the Ford.....LOL.

the best comparison i could find was from Sepang.

GT500 - 1.54.306 (nismo Z)

GT300 - 2.06.669 (MRS)

FIA GT2 - 2.09.493 (997 GT3 RSR)

V8 Supercar - 2.15.849 (Ex DJR BA qualifying for Sepang 12 hour)

The v8 was being run by a privateer Malaysian team in the 12 hour race. I seriously doubt that a Top Aussie team would be able to pull the car up to the GT300 time, it would be much closer to the FIA 997 RSR's time.

if the v8's want to get serious about making faster cars get some decent aero packages for them!!

I will go out on a limb and say the drivers of the ex DJR car are a bunch of hack businessman or had no idea how to set the car up. Now thats no sin, LOL it would be all of us if we were driving...but i feel it means that time cant be used as a basis for comparison. Based on the times i saw, i dont think a V8 Supercar would have any trouble handing it to a GT300 car .

Whats wrong with the govt protecting our automotive industry from OS manufacturers. What wrong with thousands of local jobs and skills for Australians ??

As for the whole Japanese cars showing a clean pair of heels to anything we could build? Maybe??? But dont forget that Nissan, Toyota etc struggled to make a car that could beat the Grp A Commodores at Bathurst, and globally in the same series. They exploited the rules to have success with the GTR, and great work! But look at Nissan Le Mans attempts. Toyota have enjoyed some more success, but i still dont think you can be too quick to judge and say that given a class of cars that the Japanese cars would be any quicker. There is a lot of evedince that the Japanese cars are not as quick...you only have to look at how the Supras, GTRs went when they were up against the Corvettes etc in teh GT series.

Anyway, im not saying you are wrong re the pace of cars should there be a re-think in cars....i just feel too many ppl do not give the Australian built tin tops the credit they deserve...all because one model of racing Nissan was built from scratch to win a series when all the competition were homologating shopping trollies/road cars for the Grp A series.

Yeah man, i think ozzie cars are awesome, and i really want to let people keep their jobs. I do enjoy the V8 racing it has a good history and alot of ozzie pride associated. Just think we should see more manufacturers competing. I'd love to see other companies having a go. Would make racing more enjoyable for me. :D

Yeh , it would be great to see more manufacturers. But which? When the Grp A class was scrapped globally most countried went their own way. Europeans went the way of the 2L, Japanese came up with their own pseudo GT style cars. In Australian the ONLY manufacturers committed to racing was Holden and Ford. So we had to come up with a class that suited them. Otherwise we would have had to copy another series and build similar cars as well as buy their used shells. Either way the cars had no appeal to our local market, and their local arm, be it Toyota, Honda, BMW, Toyota wanted nothing to do with an Australian series...so they were not going to throw money into a series.

So Holden and Ford were the saviour of Australian motorsport for a good many years. Now it seems that AVESCO are committed to killing off all other forms of motorsports and killing open wheelers etc by not throwing all the main classes on the one damce card. I have a whole bunch of issues with how the series is run...but you cant hold that against Holden and Ford for doing what no other Australian car dealer/manufacturer was willing to do back in 1993.

Anyway... ;)

Troy I don't dispute that at all.

I dug a little further and Ric shaw in a 1999 V8 Commodore did a 2.10 so i can easily see a Current top level car and Team up with the FIA GT2 and GT300 spec cars if not a little bit faster on that track.

but on some of the Smaller tighter Aussie tracks the GT3 cup cars give the V8's a run for the money. Last year they out qualified the V8's on 2 tracks.

whilst the gtrs back in the day were fast, it was only when they were going.

reliability was shithouse, especially early on in the piece, split engine blocks, diffs, driveshafts, turbos etc all failing regularly.

funny thing to read, how they could use the 4wd to get out of the sand pits however, as if thats not unfair advantage, haha...

Yeh, its phenomenal isnt it. Its Eastern Creek and ??? where the Porkas are quicker. So quick for so little power and what is essentially similar weight. What is it that makes them so quick, i imagine a bit of aero and mostly just dynamics.

it is true, they run ford 9" diff, ford's front double wishbone suspension and a chev motor. they are just controlled reg sport sedans these days

not really a ford 9" diff. its a 9" diff that was originally of fords design. VE commodored actually have double wishbone suspension as well, so thats not a ford based component, and the engines used are actually 5 litres motors based around the holden engines that used to power commodores, albeit heavily modified....

at least holden runs an engine that was actually used in its cars at some stage.. i dont recall ford ever using a 5 litre engine in any of their cars...

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
