I like the system in NSW but, i kinda have respect for it, advertising the camera ensures they get the end result they want ie people slow down at a hot spot and isnt a simple money grab

Agree andy..

when i was driving around in NSW on the way too woollongong its soo tempting to speed up and down the mountains.. and the big mofo signs catch ur attention and send u back to reality.

might i ask wher are theses speed reading signs.. i havent seen any around .. but then again i dont venture more than 15kms from the M1.

For those who are concerned with fixed cameras, get a TomTom and add them as POI's(Points of interest) and you can set your TomTom to give you an audible alert everytime you are within x distance from them. I currently have this setup for Police stations so I know to have the car in a higher gear then needed to keep the sound down.

I think if they are signed like in NSW it is a good thing, as you see the signs and slow down so the desired outcome in high accident zones is achieved. Better than the mobile cameras that they hide in the shrubs!

Why doesn't any australian state make a defensive driving course a compulsory part of getting your Ps or full license? Germany does and look how few accidents they have for the population! They also have cops who go around recording on a video camera peoples bad driving. They then pull them over to explain why what they did was dangerous, not hand out fines. That would be so much more useful!

Can anyone with a GPS give me the lat and long so I can store these in my Tom Tom?

Thanks :teehee:

Biggest problem I see here in QLD James is the Police and government only seem to consirntrate on speeding and how to reduce speeding cars on the road.

I dont know the specific percentages, but I reckon at a good guess that speeding is probablly the cause in maby less than 20% of all accidents.

The fatal 4 as they say makes up for over 95% of all fatilities. So what are they doing to reduce people from driving tired? What about making car makers to install a system where the car wont start until the seat belts is clicked in? Also what about more random breath testing, I know I have not been pulled over for that in years.

I reckon the reason they concerntrate on speeding is because its raising money from tickets, and its easy to monitor and issue fines with the current technoligy around today.

I personally believe the state government and federal government need to spend some time and look into possible solutions to lowering fatilities in car accidents by looking at the other 3 major causes of accidents (Driving tired, seat belts and drink driving). The look at he federal black spots where there are always accidents and find a way to redesign the road to be more suitable to the conditions rain, hail or shine. If this means lowering the speed limit then do it. If it means putting in a cement barrier in the middle than do it, maby some extra signage and line marking might make a world of difference.

Anyway enough from me for now, I just believe they are not doing enough and spending the tax payers dollars in the wrong areas. Im not saying dont have speed cameras cause they are a deterant and very usefull to slow speeders down. But please look at other ways to reduce road tolls, look at a better way to spend the money raised from speeding fines and use it to improve black spots and most importantlly driver education.

Not to mention that any accident that usually ends up being driver inattentiveness tends to get marked as excessive speed because assholes don't own up to the fact that they weren't paying attention.

This also includes not driving to the road and traffic conditions.

what really annoys the shit outa me is people who do 70 in an 80 zone, then continue to do 70 after it has changed to a 60 zone. they just couldn't give a f**k about the rules just need to do their own thing grrrrrrrrr that rages me.

it sucks the enough is enough campaign has failed, i think the target was 320 deaths, which has been exceeded twice in the past two years. such a waste

Speed doesn't cause accidents, failing to give way causes accidents. You can't run into other cars/pedestrians if you follow the road rules and give way where required. Speed can contribute to an accident (there is a big difference between causing and contributing) which is what the media will always focus on.

Three pretty simple reasons for speed cameras:

1. Speed cameras are cheap, people are not. How many cameras can you buy for $50k? And that's a once off payment.

2. Speed cameras can fine multiple people per second in the right location. You can't raise those kinds of dollars with real police doing real police work.

3. People are so used to being bent over now we have grown to just accept it.

I don't have a problem with speed cameras either as they serve a purpose. I have a problem with the government touting these cameras as "saving lives" which the ignorant public swallows hook, line and sinker. We have no one to blame but ourselves because we vote these people in and we accept the crap they dish out without question.

Join politics then Marki...

Have a no speed camera policy...

I can see it now;

VOTE 1 Marki Hanson

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
