hi just wondering if i can get some help with a problem thats bugging me

i own r32 gtst and just recently put on a new front mount intercooler cause the last one had a crack and air was leaking..

after getting it installed it started sounding like a rexy...

on cold start it sounds fine and goes good. but once it warms up starts sounding like a rex and performance wise feels like its

cut in halve

any help be appreciated

could be a fouled up plug, faulty coilpack or faulty ignitor.

check you spark plug condition.

to check the coils:

when it sounds like a wrx, unplug you coilpacks one at a time, if it gets worse when you unplug one of the coils its not that one, if there is no change in the way engine runs then that coil may be rooted. then swap that coil for another, if the problem moves with the suspect coil then its the coil, if it stays in the same position (on the same cylinder) then could be the ignitor or the wiring to that coil.

I' m pretty sure from what you said that you might have a faulty or bad coil pack. Not sure if have changed them, but what I did I've just changed all six of them and also put new spark plugs as well.

Just Jap sells their brand JJR coilpack $399 per set. Once I did that she ran so smooth I couldn't beleive.

What you describe is the only mechanical fault I've experienced in 4 years of 'liner ownership. Coil pack is suspect #1. Very easy to diagnose. Pull the plastic cover off, turn out the lights in your garage or wait for sunset, start the motor & look for the errant blue spark - it's dead obvious. Silicon spray (the greasy stuff, not the adhesive) from any auto parts shop will fix it. Just spray liberally, no need to remove anything other than the black cover trim.

PS two of my coils have hairline cracks, ie "faulty" they haven't missed a beat in 3 years since I sprayed them with silicon. They don't need removal or replacing. This is surely one of the greatest workshop scams.

Definately sounds like it's dropping a cylinder, as suggested many times already try the electrical side of things first, could also be a dirty injector gumming up when it hits optimum operating temp. failing all of those do a quick compression test on all cylinders when you're checking your coilpacks ect and obiously the condition of the new plugs after a few k's... are they all burning clean, same color ect.

hey i have the same problem but mine only kicks in after i drive for a while..like after 45 minutes or so..then the next morning after like a 10 hour break my car is fine again...

changed sparkies last week too..

any ideas?

Coil pack on it's way out. They play up when they get hot, as yours is doing after the engine bay gets some heat in it.

That also explains why the car runs fine for you the next morning, when your car has been left to sit and cool down for hours.

i dont quite understand these instructions..i wanna try this 1st before i spend money on new packs.

so 1) take off the rocker cover plastic thing? then start engine in dark and see where blue sparks are coming from? are these blue sparks the leaks?

2) then with silicon spray..spray over these blue sparks? or do i unbolt and take out the coilpack where the rubber hose thingys connect to the sparkies...and spray there? cos that would make more sense?

He means the outside body of the coil pack, the spark will show (arc) through any cracks in the outer cover.

i tried the silicon spray just then..sprayed it pretty liberally..pretty much all over the metal of the coilpacks..

nothing has changed... does that mean my coilpacks are just truely f**ked? or could it be sumthing else. but from wat i've read on this forum..it sounds like coilpacks. could they just be beyond repair? or does the silicon spray take time to kick in? or do i need to spray like 4 or 5 layers of it? cos i sprayed like 2-3 layers.

any help is apprecieted cheers.

ok. basic reasons for that lumpy sound is super rich overfuelling. e.g. i blew off a fmic hose and it was lumpy.

or u have dropped a cylinder. this is most likely from the ignition system. first check sparkplugs, most likely that is the problem.

lol +1 with what skywhine said do all that...... then check the fully sick flux capacitor.
